Ohlins fork settings

#1 Post by fastrider » Thu Jun 05, 2008 8:54 pm

Hi all,

Anyone know or have a standard setting I can use for my Ohlins forks, ie: how many rings should be showing at the headstock as a starting point.

I am after a bike that is stable and turns easily, but NOT that quick it needs a steering damper.

Any advice would be welcome.

cheers all

I thinkit's 1 less than the showa's, so 3, but I'm sure I've got some info to check.

righty I found some links, be aware that I'm getting some non-radials soon so this is all about them. dunno if it's the same for radials.

Ohlins fork manual

range of ohlins manuals

CPlus's job has reference to the number of lines in the section just before The Finished Product section. this is what he says - (I adjusted the forks so that four lines show above the top triple clamp on on each leg; this is how the Mille-Rs are set up according to the manual but one line more than how a stock Falco is set up.

I have the radial RSV forks on mine. I have gone for the 4 rings showing as standard on the RSV. The steering is noticeably quicker but nowhere near flighty or nervous. Comfort is slightly compromised.

My understanding is that you have to consider what the back is doing too. I changed the forks and rear shock at the same time. Dropped the front and raised the rear. If you were to keep your rear shock ride height the same then 4 rings on the front is easily manageable. In fact, one day when im arsed enough I will probably go to 5 rings showing - just for shits and giggles.

Falcopops,

"Good on yer' mate", :smt004 . I did manage to find CPlus's notes eventually and duly consumed the salient points. I have now saved the manuals you gave.

Fingers crossed bike should be back on the road this weekend :smt007 :smt003 :smt026 :smt041
