Best painting method

#1 Post by FlyingKiwi » Thu May 22, 2008 3:33 pm

Hi all,
I've finally repaired and sanded the damaged skidmarx Belly Pan from my trashed Falco and are ready to paint it
Gloss black to slow up the fast bronze :smt064
Whats the best way for me to do it myself.
Do I go to Halfords and get any old can of paint, What's this Two Pac thingy I hear about.
Any advice greatly received as I'm a novice to painting bikes

2 pack is base coat then top coat, if its metallic then 3 pack (lacquer layer extra).

I used to paint bits on my cars years ago, always over painted then rubbed down between coats, if you put the effort in you'll make the new stuff make the original paint job look cheap and nasty.

Oh and if you do a final lacquer layer clean off the paintwork with meths then wash and dry thoroughly before applying. you can also buff the end result.

Edit. Forgot to add brush is best, go and buy a top quality badger brush, ie an artists brush about 1 inch wide and its flat, lacquer can be spray though and do let it go hard first before buffing lightly (its easy to get drag in it)
