Hi all,
My first problem
I had my tank replaced today under warranty. The lacquer was peeling.
So the guy empties a Jerry can into a GTR1400 for me to play on for a couple of hours.
Then empties my tank into Jerry.
removes my tank. puts my fuel pump and cap on the new tank. Puts new tank on my bike and now it won't run proper
It ran alright for about 10 miles then when you wind it on it's like it's starving of fuel.
This gets worst and it runs like it missing then gets so bad it won't even pull 1st.
If I knock the ignition off and on while on the move I get power again for another mile or so. I guess it's priming the pump.
Twice I went back to the dealer. First time he found a bit of plastic swarf over the intake hole to the pump. Second time he replaced the fuel filter. Both breather pipes are clear. Any ideas? the mechanic is stumped and is giving Aprilia a call in the morning.

Sounds like the same problem I have
https://www.ridersite.com/viewtopic.php?t=3102
The bikes in the shop at the moment, they were meant to phone me today but didn't so I guess they've not looked at it yet. Let me know if you figure out your prob as I might have the same and I'll do the same if they fix mine.

Is the tank venting properly? If it happens again, stop, open the filler cap, shut the filler cap and try to start it. If it starts up easily then it's because there's been a vacuum created in the tank as it's not venting properly.

Might be worth lifting the tank, just to see if there's any pipework trapped when the tank is lowered, or any connections shorting/being pulled apart. My previous bike did this when the fuel pump was dying - had to reach under the tank every few miles and tap the pump until I could feel it start pumping, then all was well again.

Did you figure out your problem Mr Kiwi? My bike is still at the dealers! They've been looking at it for 2 whole days so far trying to figure out the problem - can't be good :-/

I'm taking mine in tomorrow.
First thing they're gonna do is stick the old tank back on.
fingers crossed.

Hey Al, any news?
Apparently they've changed the plugs, don't know why
and the fuel pressure regulator on mine.
Won't know until it's had a proper test ride next week if any better.
It was 4pm Sat & closing time when they finished it.

NO

They're still messing about with my one, so instead of enjoying my bike over the bank hol I'm doing DIY :-( I went in to the shop to try and find out what was happening and apparently they had adjusted the fuel pressure and was rerunning the diagnostic on it? I don't think they have a clue to be honest :-/
Let us know how you get on, hopefully you'll have a bit more luck than i'm having. I miss my bike :-(

Hi Al,
I spoke to my lot today and they reckon it's sorted.
They've replaced the fuel pressure regulator ( I think)
They reckon it's because my scottoiler was plumbed into it.
I have my doubts though. My scottoiler was in the same position on my last Falco and that did 9000 trouble free miles and a mate reckons there's no vacuum to that anyway
The mechanic was away this week so I'll speak to him on monday and get my bike back next week.

Can't be the fuel pressure regulator there aren't any vacuum lines on it as far as I recall. Must be the sensor beside it they mean, I think that has a T'd vacuum line. Hold on!
That's better. Part 12, vacuum hoses Nos. 9. Is that where you had the Scottoiler?
I'm suspecting so and that a leak in this would bugger up any readings the sensor was taking. I would have thought that taking the Scottoiler out of the equation and ensuring the vac lines were good should fix it as I don't see how the sensor would be damaged

Phoned up the shop to give them an ear full and apparently my bike is ready for collection
I wonder if they've actually fixed the fault or not? Got my fingers crossed, but I guess only time will tell. I'll see if I can find out what they've done when I pick it up later on.
