De-restriction - Is it worth it?

#1 Post by GRFalco » Thu May 08, 2008 3:49 pm

What will it actually give me (apart from more noise)?

And.... can anyone do it for me? :smt002

According to KEN's SITE there's about 25 bhp difference.
Also step by step instructions. :smt002

I was just looking up the URL and FK beat me to it!! Don't worry GR, it really is easy to do and the instructions on Kens' site are A+. If you really don't want to tackle it - where do you live?
The ride is the reason ........ the destination is just the excuse.

I have looked at the instructions and they really are outside of my 'comfort zone'. I'll only have it done if it's really worth it!

I di dring the Aprilia dealer in Bury St. Edmunds but he didn't seem to know anything about it. he was more interested in trying to get me to book my bike in with him for a service.

I work in Bury St. Edmunds but live just south of Norwich.

My Falco was already done when I got it so I have no idea what they are like 'restricted' BUT if Ken is right about the 20 odd HP loss then it is a must.

I believe it really is simple.
If you can lift the tank and prop it right up then you can easily remove the airbox cover. The 6 screws fixing the lower box to the throttle bodies may be tight but they all come out ok. You'll need to do this one day anyway if only to change the plugs !

As for the wiring - I believe it really is as simple as snipping and insulating 2 wires. This brings the second map into play (as I understand it) Try searching for derestrict on the AF1 site or our archived site.

Absolutley 100% worth doing. I thought mine had a bit of grunt compared to my Kwack 636 when I got it but when I went looking, discovered it was still restricted. Took about 10 mins to do (and most of that is unscrewing the bolts on the air box to take the blanking plate out) and wham, totally different bike. DO IT! :smt003

Mine was restricted when I first got it .... which was probably a good thing given that I'd not ridden for quite a few years. De restricted at the first service - the buzz of new power all over again. Yes it's worth it and it's soooo easy.

I live in beccles

drop me a pm for an evening when you are free and we can do it together - if that sounds ok :)

Oh - I am not about sunday to tuesday evenings - rest of the time is cool

Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...

I couldn't see the 6 screws that you need to remove the lower bit on the pictures. Maybe I'll take a look.
