Increasing headlight power/brightness?

#1 Post by mmchutchon » Sat May 03, 2008 3:12 pm

Has anyone tried upgrading the headlights at all on the Falco? I'm very impressed by the pattern of the lenses as well as the dual bulb main beam.

Would it be easy to wire the dipped beam into the main beam switch so you have ~150 w of main beam? Has anyone tried fitting fatter cables, bigger fuses and running rally bulbs at 100 W each? Would have to be careful as they would be HOT - but could be unbelievably bright!

Any ideas?

Welcome aboard Martine. (sorry but that's what your forum name made me think of - the Cockney Love Actually actress woman) :smt002

Try a search for HID coz a few people have successfully (according to them) fitted HID units on dip and rave (and rant and go on a lot generally) about them.

Me - I just make sure I'm home before nightfall.

Yeah, I finally found the 'search' button and have discovered there are quite a few options! I like the idea of the HID+wiring mod, makes a lot of sense to me.

I am trying to source a single kit from a chinese supplier on ebay, failing that if someone wants to go halves on a twin HID kit let me know!

Think i'll be putting HID on my car too... why not?

Yup, HID is awesome. Well worth doing. I'm doing both of my cars soon too.

Hi and welcome .... yep HID + headlight wiring mod is the way to go .... I'm also thinking of a set of those Osram 90% brighter bulbs for the main beams .... :smt003

I think you're getting the picture?! HiD + dip beam mod is the way to go (check my avatar, the pic shows an HID dip and the mains on bulbs). Wouldn't recomment high wattage bulbs because of the heat on the plastic reflector and the extra current draw on the wiring.

Funny I found your thread... Was just about to post one with "who wants to part a set of HIDs with me" :smt001 Will look into it tomorrow.

Finally fitted my HID kit today, feck me is it bright! It looks as bright as the high beam, a really bright blue whereas the high beam now looks like a dull yellow. I'm going to re-wire the switch tomorrow so the dip stays on when the full beam comes on, so if I remember my colour theory, there should be a green bit where the blue dip meets the yellow full beam.

Did I say the HID kit is amazingly bright??

did I say told you so?

:)

Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...

I can't remember, I've had three bottles of Old Peculier to help blot out the indicator trauma.
