Born slippy

#1 Post by Firestarter » Tue Apr 29, 2008 7:26 am

Got my leathers - thanks for the advice here.

Getting used to the lack of blood flow round my legs and other areas while they stretch out a bit, pretty happy with what I've got. However...

I've never had leathers before, I've always ridden in textile gear. But, while riding in the leathers, I can't stay in the seat properly. I roll on the throttle hard, hit a bump, and I'm sliding all over the seat - worst case was hitting a "crease" on a roundabout (looks like an underground pipe), being kicked out the seat, rolling on the throttle as a result of being thrown backwards, and therefore going straighter than I'd like! Caught it in plenty of time, but it's now making me a bit nervous when cranking the throttle, cos I feel like I'm hanging on too hard on the bars.

Am I doing something wrong, or is it just something to get used to? :smt017 Or is there something that I can fit to the seat to stop sliding?

I find it best to scrub the arse of the leathers lightly with sandpaper or the like to roughen the surface a little - if your saddle wasn't slippy with textiles then it ain't that that's the problem, just need to scrub the 'new slippy' off it
(you could sit on the ground and scape along to roughen 'em but someone is sure to think you have worms :smt002 )

or you could get one of the 'anti'slip' mats available for luggage ?

If they are the same as my wolf leathers it could be the stretch panels at the crotch ...mine slip all over the place!...I just got used to it after a while.
You could put some stomp grips on so you can grip with your inner thigh ...

I'm on my first set of leathers and, when I got them, it really surprised me how much I slipped about on the seat when wearing them. Never had any problems with my throttle hand but I did slide about.
However, now the sliding has stopped. Not sure whether they are just less slippy now that I've worn them a while (I suspect this is right) or whether I'm just used to keeping myself where I want to be while wearing them.

My guess is that after a few more rides, your problem will be history.

I hope so - that was scary on that roundabout! :smt078 Although not quite scary enough to attack my trousers with sandpaper, but I'll keep that one in reserve if it doesn't get any better.

Oka, thought about some grips for the tank, but I've got a tank cover (leather on leather doesn't seem to be grippy either!)

Thanks for the advice guys (and gals!)
