bodywork blues

#1 Post by k1w1boy » Thu Apr 24, 2008 6:50 pm

... chasing a quote for repairs to my plastic (sanding, filling and 'touching up' paint just ain't me coz I know it'll turn out crap) I was told 180 squid for a tail fairing repair - covering the one down-to-the-white-stuff gash, and a total tail respray. Is this reasonable? I've never owned anything remotely as pretty as my Falco to consider this so any thoughts would be appreciated :smt006

If that's including VAT and a decent repair, full repaint from undercoat thru to lacquer, etc then I'd say it was pretty reasonable.

If theyre only blowing over the existing paint, then no.

I'd personally apply liberal amounts of silicon polish over the panels and along the edges. It'd ensure they HAVE to do a decent job of rubbing down, etc to get rid of it.

But then Im a twat like that.. :smt002

...good questions - I'll ask them. Will consider the 'Kwackerz - special' twat route if they say yep, and I go through with it :smt003

Seeing as a new one costs nearly £300 then it's a half price bargain......

...... assuming they do a good job.

I don't know what colour yours is but it's not easy colour matching the Aprilia paints. One thing I do know though is that auto paint is incredibly expensive so £150 for full panel and full coats is probably not too bad :smt017

Paint job

Depending where in London you are, we found a great place in Sidcup. He's a resprayer (name of Rob) in the building next door to Sidcup Motorcycle Tyres. He patched up my other half's TRX fairing. It had some large cracks and a bloody big hole in it (indicator was punched through after sudden trip to ground zero). He repaired and resprayed to the state where the repaired side was better than the 'still ok' side!

Have lost his contact details but if you phone the tyre place, they'll shout across the courtyard to him!

Ok, not 100% sure but I think this is the right contact detail:

R W Vehicle Repairs
15, Alma Rd, Sidcup, Kent DA14 4HN
Tel: 020 8302 0770

There's the tyre place, a motorycycle mechanic, a car workshop and the respraying place all in the same yard. They make each other coffee so I don't think it matters which one you phone!

There was a chap, may still be there, who used to be part of the old ridersite. Had a paint shop right next to Renegade near Brands Hatch. He was great at matching the Falco colours, even made up a rattle can of blue for a mate. Chuck a PM over to Kwackerz he'll have the info you need I'm sure.

Think he used to post under the name of Paintmaster.
