Hot grips / dead battery / switched live?

#1 Post by hornetrider » Sun Apr 13, 2008 10:53 am

I've installed some Oxford Hot Grips on my shiny new helibars in preparation for Le Mans. :smt004 Yaaay, more toys!

I left the grips on for a test as the Oxford instructions state they will switch off if they detect battery voltage dropping (they are connected direct to the battery). Needless to say, they drained the battery to below the level needed to crank the starter, so she is now on the optimate!

It is inevitable that at some point I will forget to switch the grips off after use, so would prefer to wire them in to a switched live so they are turned off when the ignition is switched off.

Has anyone done this and can tell me which wire I can splice into coming off the ignition?

Many thanks!!

Yes I've done it - I'll have to see if I can find the wiring sketch I made.

Post up later once I've found it.

I've got the new ones with the digital switch that turns off with a voltage drop.
They won't even turn on unless the bike is running.

Those are the ones I've got as well. Its true they don't switch on when the bike is off, but I started the bike, switched the grips on then stopped the bike as a test. Tried to start the bike three hours later and no-go! Beware! :smt001
