British Superbike starts this weekend!

#1 Post by Kwackerz » Sat Apr 05, 2008 9:43 am

Racing will be shown on Eurosport 2 at 13:15hrs on Sunday

Looks to be a good lineup for the year.

I notice the R1 Cup bikes were involved in an incident en route to Brands.. A 3 truck pileup which saw all the bikes cosmetically damaged! That in itself should make the first race interesting.. will they come out looking like club racers, or the top flight Yamaha sponsored series that they should be... :smt005

ARGH!! Cancelled due to snow :smt009 looks like being rescheduled to 10/11 May.. when Bemsee have the track booked.. that's going to pee off a heck of a lot of people..
Extensive snowfalls at Brands Hatch this morning have caused the opening round of the Bennetts British Superbike championship to be abandoned.

At 11.15am Sunday morning Jonathan Palmer, Chief Executive of MotorSport Vision, the owner of Brands Hatch, announced that following a review of circuit conditions and the latest forecast, the meeting would be cancelled for the day.

"It is bitterly disappointing for all the fans who have come and of course for all the teams and organisations including the Brands Hatch team who have put so much into this weekend," said Palmer. "Apart from the inability to put on the great show fans expect from BSB, safety is our number one priority and this must not be compromised."

"I have been very eager however to see if we could find a way not to just cancel, but postpone the first Brands Hatch event. Fortunately a major benefit of MSV now running BSB is that following a review of our calendar, I am delighted to be able to immediately announce that we have rescheduled this meeting which will now take place on the Brands Hatch Grand Prix circuit on 10/11 May."

"All race day, weekend and grandstand tickets for today's event will be valid for the new date with no extra charge. The grids for all of the races within the BSB programme will be as set yesterday, 5 April. The 10/11 May date was scheduled to be a BMCRC meeting and some races from this will be incorporated into the BSB event."

"I am so sorry that so many people have had a frustrating day of uncertainty but can assure everyone we have done everything possible to minimise the disruption of such extreme weather in April."

Hmm. Just got caught in a white-out, and I was only walking next door to check on an elderly neighbour.
Coming back I was thinking that I hoped none of you were caught out on bikes in it, and got back to see this. :smt012

and I was in a T shirt. :smt013

It will, but its not a surprising decision - maybe we'll get another date with a bit of luck

I note the MRO will get selected rides..seemingly?

Pah.. Theyre just scared the 400s will embarrass the R1 Cup if the gridded with them.. :smt002

I do hope they get another date. Brands GP is one of the better circuits on the programme, I'd imagine there's a few trackdays prior, for testing, that will now serve no purpose other than to lighten the pocket too.

From the BMCRC Site:
Postponement of BSB to the BMCRC May Brands GP Rounds
Many of you will be aware of the impossible conditions faced by MSVR at Brands on Sunday 6th of April concerning raceday for the first BSB meeting of the year. The Club was approached prior to the decision being announced, that MSVR is now forced to postpone this event to the 11th May. This was a day booked for the BMCRC Brands GP meeting.
Speculation is rife amongst our members which is understandable as to what all this will mean. Please wait and be patient, the Club already has meetings planned with colleagues at MSVR to discuss the details of the situation early this week. As soon as we are clear as to the outcomes and their impacts on all our racing members, both MRO and Club classes and our marshals and officials, we will advise.
