Carl Fogarty is set to make a sensational return to racing this year. Sources inside Team Foggy say the Lancastrian is so fed up with being out of the loop, and not being invited on to A Question of Sport any more (which he clearly enjoyed so much) that he has been in training over the winter and intends to get back in the saddle later this month.
The quietly-spoken, shy and retiring four-times World Superbike Champion (that's four, not two like that Barry Sheene) has signed for Team Professional Northerner and will contest the Fen Cup this year on a fully-homologated-for-superbike-racing-oh-yes-we-will-build-them-for-the-road motorbike which has tyres and everything. Round one is at Pondersbridge track, near Ramsey Forty Foot, later on today.
A spokesman for Foggy said: "Eh opp, driver, I'm the greatest British motorcycle racer," and then disappeared in a cloud of his own self-importance...
Speaking from the foot of his stairs, where he recently went, Team Professional Northerner spokesman the late Fred Trueman said: "'Appen."
