ferry prices

#1 Post by lazarus » Wed Mar 05, 2008 10:13 pm

fancy a bike trip on the continent. before I've always used the MCN special discount offer but have not seen one this season. Anyone aware of any special ferry deals? ideally P&O or Britanny.

LD Lines tend to be the cheapest but I think they only run Porstmouth - Le Havre.

I like Brittany Ferries best cos the boats are so great, I reckon the holiday starts as soon as I get on board!

The only special deals I've seen are for cars.

Depends where you are going to, but I travel accross the river a lot on business and we find that Norfolk lines are consistantly good( Dover-Dunquirk) or Europa ferries Ramsgate to Ostende are ridiculous prices...trouble is these are all further up the coast!!

The chunnel is cheap enough if you travel at the right time of day.

I've done that one a few times, if you do the late crossing it's 8 hrs instead 5 and you have to have a cabin which bumps the price up a bit

Although MCN do often run 10% off type offers fairly regularly I don't recall seeing them for the Spanish routes.

Friend of mine once sent this link - may be of use but I haven't looked closely.... http://www.motorsport-travel.com/

There's six of us going down on the Plymouth to Santander ferry on 11th may this year
I got us booked for £165 each one way - all got bikes & sharing 2 berth cabins this trip takes about 20 hours
We sail at 4'.30pm on sunday & dock at 12.30 p.m the following day

I know it seems expensive, but you have to consider an eight hundred mile blast through France (mainly boring Autoroutes), with at least one night's hotel stopever, petrol, tolls, & tyre wear. Then it seems like a bargin :smt001

We're doing 2 days in the Picos, then the Pyrenees from West to East, then a couple of days on the Med coast/Andorra, then up through France via the A75 & Millau Viaduct :smt003 :smt003

Will post pictures upon our return :smt004

I go P&O, I paid £45 return last time (October '06) which was a 2 week trip.

On the 3 times we've been by car in the last year they've averaged £30 return.
