Carbon SL Chip...

#1 Post by GregD-UK » Wed Jan 23, 2008 6:05 pm

Hi all,

OK, got my bike dyno'd the other day, got 110bhp at the back wheel, not bad I thought. Have the Carbon SL Cans fitted, alas no dedicated aprilia chip :smt010 Have a renegade chip in, came with the bike, when it runs even with the pc III on it runs lean when the clutch is engaged. Guy who owns the dyno says it's the chip or ECU that is the problem unable to go to lean in low gears..... :smt012

Anyone got the carbon sl chip that they aren't using, obviously if you are running some other cans. I would be eternally grateful if there was one out there gathering dust in a garage somwhere :smt003

Obviously, pay for the damn thing, can't find any on fleebay :smt010

Cheers,

Ur friendly lens guy.

110 at the wheel and still not happy :smt002 I'd be happy with mine not exploding all over the dyno room

Sorry, no chip. They are like expensive rockinghorse shit.

If I had an EEPROM reader I'd make an image of mine for you. Alas, I haven't seen an EEPROM reader for over a decade...
It's the V-twin thing. There's just something about it that inline-4s don't have at all, and V-4s don't have enough of.

SL Chip

#5 Post by GregD-UK » Thu Jan 24, 2008 11:40 am

Hi John,

Thanks, you are a star matey, shall email him and ask if he still has it. More importantly, will he sell me it :smt003

Not after more power, just want to stop it from stalling on me when I engage the clutch, it runs lean and has cut the engine out on me a couple of times :smt010 Luckily when I have been approaching a junction to stop not when riding quick, thank god!

Cheers,

Ur friendly lens guy.

Interesting dyno figure Greg.
Is that the Renegade plus 10 chip?
I have bought one of these but not fitted it yet. Have Beowulf Titanium oval cans and a K&N induction kit with no PC3 at the moment, I was just planning to try it as a straight swap for the standard chip and see how it performed.
Not bothered fitting it yet, as weather is a bit crap for "performance testing" to compare the two, and have mainly been using my old CBR Thou.
I had been hoping for 110 or possibly a bit more at the back wheel.

Doesn't a PCIII override the chip anyway? does it matter what chip you've got if you've got a PC fitted? Never got my head around this.

I've always been a bit unclear on this as well, that's why I am planning to try the Renegade chip on its own first and see how iit goes.

Plenty of people seem to have been happy with this chip using Rene cans and airbox, which will bring in a bit more air than the K&N so that is my only concern.

SL Chip

#12 Post by GregD-UK » Thu Jan 24, 2008 1:31 pm

Hi all,

OK, have renegade chip in, the dyno guy assured me, if u have renegage cans put the correct chip in, same with carbon sl cans as this dictates the fuelling and engine management from the ECU. The PC III does re-map the fuelling, but, in order for it to work within 13 - 14 readings on the dyno-jet machine you can't tamper too much with the fuel, because when you engage the clutch this effectively cuts the fuel and if the map is set to run inbetween the optimum 13-14 when revving and throttle off you need the control from the ECU via the chip to work it all properly. That's what the guy at the dyno centre told me :smt017

Abit too technical for me, but, I kinda understood what he was talking about...

110 bhp at the back wheel is fine for me :smt003 I also have a renegade air air filter plate fitted, which sounds great past 5,000 revs. The sound of induction rattles my fillings :smt007

Let you know how I get on when it is finished.

Later,

Ur friendly lens guy.

Hi Greg

I have an RSV Titanium chip and an SP Titanium chip, but I`ve no idea what they would do to the falco set up though.

Renegade Chips are custom made to suit the particular can and configuration. They may work with another make of can and it's set up, but there's no guarantee of it. Pipe bore size, tuned length, as well as what collector is being used as well as whether Falco, RSV, etc all have input on the choice of chip

...Which is why Jorge hasnt, doesnt and wont sell Rene Chips separately to the Public :smt001
