"Aprilia V-twin is good step up for new riders, say owners"
Sorry if this is a repost but I just spotted this little mini-review in MCN Bike Mart of 19/12/07.
Is owner 'Morg' anyone here?
Funny thing was that although there are usually one or two Falcos in the For Sale section there were none this week - the week they chose to highlight the bike!
Typical MCN. At least there was a picture of a speed camera

Yeah - I saw this and was going to run a poll on it (but never got round to it)
I wouldn't recommend it to new riders - am I just getting old or do others think this is a bike that requires a level of experience?

Well, I'm certainly going to wait until conditions get better before taking mine out for a 'proper' shakedown run
The way the Falco puts the power down & the feel of the bike are totally different to what I'm used to.
And its not that I'm a fair weather rider, I'm just warming up from chucking me K1200S around all afternoon
(Thankyou BMW for those brilliant heated grips

)

I'm with you D-R - and I'm not getting old (just older

)
I moved to the Falco 3 years ago, having spent ~ 1 year on my first bike - a Honda Bros 650. Love the Falco, and glad I bought it, but I feel it's only last summer that I really started to get to grips with the bike - I might have been better with a Suzuki SV650 or an IL4 600 for a while, learning to ride before moving up to something with the grunt the Falco has.

I'd agree with D-R too. I've progressed from a series of 600 fours and a spell with an R1 and have ridden various mates blades/busa's etc and with the Falco I had to effectively re-learn how to ride.
I've done a lot of advanced training etc and thought it'd be 'just another bike' but it takes some adapting to get used to it. Worth it tho, its awesome but definitely not for a novice who thinks they could get on and just go for a blast I'd say. It'll bite back in the wrong hands.

Yeah - heated grips - never had them before in all my years of biking but especially over recent weeks the ones I've fitted to the Falco have made winter riding so much nicer.

I think it depends on being able to ride a v twin
after some years off riding I came back on a ducati 750 sport - after that the falco felt easy... but the Duke took some learning
would I let a novice loose on a v twin - yes, the SV 650 is a good choice
would I let them loose on a falco - nope....
Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...
