Hmmm am considering a plot....

#1 Post by Aladinsaneuk » Thu Nov 29, 2007 4:46 pm

I know that a few of us at least are members of the UK Aprilia club - www.clubaprilia.net/ and that got me to thinking

In the main, they do not cover our falcos much - but they do have an online magazine that they want articles for.
So - I thought it might be quite amusing to put together our own little article on fettling a falco, complete with pictures etc

(May also explain why we do it... no other aprilia gets modded like the falco!)

As a work in progress it could also be a nice way to put everything into one place?

Perhaps the headings/subjects could be:

Sidestand - the options and images of the various solutions

Airkits - the two bought examples and then the home made hybrids

Electrical Stuff - not just the charging change, but the solenoid, HID installation etc

Power Commander - and why/what maps

Bodywork - Not just the belly pan, but rad guards, bought and made, but also the Falcuonos....

Gearing - and why each choice

Tail Tidy / Indicators - both bought and home made - and the LED solutions (Dare we show off the rear lenses?!)

***
Just a thought - perhaps if we did do it, then people can write/add sections and then some nice mod can edit them all together?
(And yes I appreciate that a lot of this could be done by cutting and pasting from assorted people's posts already but...)

Well seeing as I'm not a member of www.clubaprilia.net/ , nor TBO likely ever to be and as I like it just fine here on RS Aprilia, I don't see much point, especially as there's an awful lot of info on the AF1 site.

Gio, you're not even a Falco owner!!!

Alad, I do kind of agree with Gio though, why do this for the benefit of Clubaprilia - why not do it right here?

here are the converted

there, a radically modded mille has an after market exhaust AND a double bubble screen...

also, if you read what I said, I said make it here - but throw it over to another site when finished - and, being pedantic, aprilia are getting ready to release their 1200 - initially as a sports bike only, but with a sports tourer to follow. Some of us met the aprilia uk folk this summer and they were very inquisitive about our thoughts - they were inquisitive enough to put this forum as an official link off the UK aprilia web page after all

then look at the mods we do - and why we do them - partly for the love, partly for praticality, and so on. The concensus that the aprilia folks came up with was that the falco was killed off as it was too expensive to keep making - I think a detailed explanation of why we like the bike may well help them in the future - and therefore may help us - after all, I am down on record elsewhere as saying that a 1200 falco/mille2/whatever will be my next bike.

and finally - putting a compendium of all that we have done over the years, in one place, would be a nice acheivement I think

(Oh - and kwack - would almost definitly bring more people here asking just why when you have the balls to take the queens shilling, but you do not trust yourself on a nice v twin....)

I wasn't when I joined the original apriliaridersite either and I was around on that before most of you, so :smt019 :smt005

I've been a member of ClubAprilia for 1 week now.

I'm not jumping ship but I decided it was a good idea to see what's going on over there (just as I do on AF1). To be fair to these other sites I join in and contribute - although here is home.

Where appropriate I link back to here and sometimes point people in this direction but there's a fine line between occasionally pointing people over and overdoing it so that people see you as a cuckoo in the nest.

Another reason for joining up is that Club Aprilia is recognised by Aprilia or Aprilia UK - a link that may be useful (I dunno yet). They also organise the annual ApriliaDay that many of you went to earlier in the year (and I missed due to a ###### wedding).

As for Pete's idea, I think we should first gather and collate this info on this forum. It's something I've been wanting to do for some time but not found time for.
Maybe after that, we can point people over here to use it to answer their questions.

TBH I think the fact that they are an officially recognised club is something very positive for them but then I've not come across a forum as strong as this one for Falco riders - so that's something very much in our favour. I hope it's not an us and them thing but all useful parts of a bigger picture.
I think it's horses for courses ... but I'm still trying to discover more what the Club Aprilia horse does and where it's course goes.

I also think that what attracts people to forums is an active membership of welcoming people. The fact that they are knowledgeable is also a good thing. So to keep this forum right up there we need to keep communicating and having good fun together. Last year after Rider Power we gained a good number of new members - having done even better this year, we need to put our welcoming hats on and show this is a thriving site.

Another point is that despite the strength of the Falco part of this forum we shouldn't loose sight of our desire to keep this as an Aprilia forum with something for all models.

And if there were nothing else we've got the best selection of Emoticons of any Aprilia forum. :smt003

Pretty much spot on andy

my only niggle with the official aprilia forums is that the falco does not fit into any of their catagories - we are not sports or tourer....
(And tbh the knowledge of many over there is poor when it comes to the falco... actually is poor when it comes to modding but i digress!)

as for AF1 - currently I like the falco forum - there seems to be a fair balance between the assorted nations and that is born out by some good posts - having said that, I , like probably a fair few others, am getting ready to be ignored as i do not eat freedom fries or want to do rude things with dubya....

this is my second home - i have a local bike group that is where i lurk most often and do most things with - but here is where the falco lives if that makes sense
