Christmas !

#1 Post by Fat Harry » Sun Dec 17, 2006 4:15 pm

Lets kick this off with a seasonal flavour.
Some of us make a big deal of it with a gathering of the clans, others a more simplistic approach.
There's only yours truely & Mrs FH so ours is a rather low key affair, my sis in law will be there for christmas day as she has no where else to go ! :smt002
We put a tree up indoors but not much else, I put little twinkly lights in the tree out front, which passers by seem to like !
We buy each other silly bits n pieces these days rather than expensive presents.
Approx 50% of "chez Harry" will be either "eatable or drinkable", we believe in "eat drink & be merry"!! :smt003

So ! How do you do yours ??

Last year I was elsewhere, however this year Ive been minorly involved in the events in our household. 3 Kids and a mad wife mean that my sublime ideas for ' a few lights, glass of wine and a mince pie' got shot down in favour of loads of lights, copoius amounts of Wine, Spirits and Beer, and a small country's supply of Food. :smt009

I dont think the idea behind Christmas has been lost, but it's bordering on being sponsored by British Gas, Eastern Electricity and Iceland in our house. :smt003

Im looking forward to the Queen's Speech though. We are visiting the Inlaws prior to Christmas Day, hopefully being left alone to ourselves on the Day.

Christmas Day spent with the parents, the mother freaking and I mean FREAKING over serving dinner, the old aunties shouting eh? every 2 minutes cos the batteries in their hearing aids are ringing and hubby and the father asleep 5 mins after dinner!

I HATE Christmas and if it wasnt for kiddo wouldnt even bother putting a tree up :smt001

I love Christmas, I'll even go to church and deafen the old biddies in front with my one tone singing voice, (they'll even turn round and smile) :smt005.

We're not at home this xmas or boxing days, instead we're letting someone else do the cooking and clearing up (mostly cos I've been doing it all the last 9 or 10 years and fancy a break from it)

So it'll be plenty to drink and kip when I want.

I'm doing a big buffet on the 28th as we'll have about 20-25 people popping in and out from about 12 noon.
I hate it when people ask if you have a bathroom, I want to say "No we pee in the garden"

This year we are, for the first time ever, having everyone at ours, staying for 5 days. So goodness knows what it will be like. It's going to be a dry one for me too 'cause my meds mean I can't drink alcohol........ only another 5mths to go :smt118 I may stop taking them after the first day of everyone staying in the house :smt002

When it is Cal and me we put the tree up and have some lights in the window and some holly and mistletoe around the place but other than that there are no decs.

We start on Yule [21st]with a little pressie each and then for the 12 days that is Yule for us we eat, drink and be merry without going out the front door........ we sneak out the back and throw the dog over the back fence so we can go walking in the hills without seeing anyone....... yes, miserable gits we are but I love it.

On one day we get up don't get dressed, drag the duvet downstairs and have a lord of the rings sesh. where we watch all three films one after t'other only pausing for food, drink and necessaries ;o)

I've invited Dean's folks ... for a fortnight ... am not shure what I've got myself into.

I was meant to pick them up from Edinburgh Airport this morning, but their flight's been grounded cos of the freezing fog in Norwich. They're booked on the 6.45 flight tonight, so waiting to hear if it's a goer.

It'll just be us lot and Freddie, our first Xmas here cos of being burgled last Nov, so I'm really excited. For once we're not trying to visit both families, spending all holiday travelling. New Year is great here, there's a hooge bonfire in the middle of the town, so am fair looking forward to that.

Xmas morning will be a chill out unwrapping presents, helping my daughter figure out all the new gadgets she got (problem with teenagers, the presents get more complicated the older they get :smt009 ) and then the bit I dread every year, off to see Godzilla in a dress (Mother in Law) for her usual crap christmas dinner :smt013

I really could do without Xmas :smt009
