Which Alarm?

Hi all,

My alarm is buggered! Need a new one, rang a local Datatool installer, and they told me no longer do them, as they kept sucking the life out of battery and didn't arm etc.... :smt017 So, now they fit Meta alarms, namely, M375T.

Anyone heard this about the Datatool alarms, it was the new S4 system I was gonna fit as well.... Is the Meta alarm any good seeing as that was the old one that was installed on my bike when I got it...

Any advice much appreciated....

P.S. Need a new battery as well, which one a reasonable choice :smt001

hi, I don't have an alarm, but a quick look on the RIDE Triangle Best Buys site and they Recommended the M357T in '01 and the M357T v2 was Best Buy in '04.

My falco was fitted with the MT375T it never gave any problems.

There have been some reports on here of people having trouble with the Datatool alarm - same problems you describe from what I remember. I think Sabestian was one of them.

I've a Meta on mine - got it second-hand from ebay (same as usual then). Fortunately it came with all the wires marked up as Meta will not release any info.

It has been very reliable - I'm very pleased with it.

If I have to find something to criticise I'd say that it can be a bit sensitive and the alarm will go off when parked up in strong, gusty winds. Apart from that it's been very good indeed.

Mine came with a meta alarm when i bought it - seems to be ok, soon goes off if i try moving or starting the bike without disarming it. Starts quite happily after being left armed for the week without being started so I guess it doesn't drain the batery too quickly. TBH I've never had an alarm fitted to one of my bikes before so I've got nothing to compare it with.

I've got a Datatool system 3, not had the bike long but so far so good. The last owner had no problems either.

I had a Datatool system 3. It sucked the life out the battery and then wouldn't disarm with the fob, leaving the bike immobilised :smt013

So.....bought a 2nd hand one off ebay and it at least disarmed ok but it still drained the battery.

Ended up ripping the alarm out and now the bike starts first time no problem.

My other bike has never had an alarm and to be honest I think they are more bother than they're worth.

Unless you live in an area that really necessitates one then I would consider not fitting one.

Check with your insurance company what the difference in premium would be if you didn't have one. Mine was negligible :smt023

I fitted an Odyssey battery after all the problems I'd had. Pretty expensive but well up to the job thats for sure :smt002

Regarding insurance. I recently wrote off my kwak z750. I got a quote for a falco with a misc alarm and was quoted 460 to change. With the datatool 3 I paid 250 extra.

Thankx guys for all the advice, thing a meta alarm is the way to go :smt003 M357T will be fitted on Mon morn! £250 all in apparently...

Battery, will go up to ncle on sat and see what is on offer...

Got a datatool s3 on mine. (was on when I bought it0. Seems ok. Second bike with it on. I wouldn't however pay for an alarm anymore. I rang round 6 insurance co's and found it saves me £1 per year. So, 300 yrs and I'll break even! A big chain, ground anchor and a noisy dog works for me! :smt002
