Falco down

#1 Post by FlyingKiwi » Fri Nov 16, 2007 6:11 pm

Well I have been riding 27 yrs so it was bound to happen.
Overtake two slow (40ish) builders vans. front one indicates late and turns in front. Hey Presto, one Bronze Falco into said Van. Well I was lucky as I was trying to get around the front and clipped the front wing. I've only seen pics but it doesn't look good. Handle bars bent and twisted. Front fairing non existant. all covered in dirt as I was way on the wrong side of the road trying to avoid. I flew 40 ft and landed in some brambles. Just home after 2 days in Hospital. a fractured right wrist and a nasty gash on left shin, down to the bone. I had surgery to clean up the gash, they removed blue transit paint from my bone.
Now the fun starts :smt012 insurance companies, lawyers, cops...
Oh and Brunstroms helicopter flew over to take some pics but my head was still attached.

That's bad news Kiwi. The main thing is you are in one piece. Hope you heal up quick mate.

All the best.

Oof! Sounds painful! Heal quickly. Hope the bike just looks worse than it is.

Aww feck, Glad you're still attached tho.

Don't like asking, but any pics of the bike as I'd be interested in bits, ie rear seat whale hump, if fitted and its ok and the bike gets R/O

Damn - hope you heal up quickly - and hope you get the Falco fixed up OK.

Sometimes there's just nowhere to go to avoid the muppets on the road - bad news it was your turn for circumstances to conspire against you.

Got back from Germany at midnight last night to find my son lost the front f his scooter and has done his foot in. He's no better today so I guess I'll be taking him to A&E tomorrow to get it checked out .... and he got a call tonight from one of his mates who'd just done the same and was on his way to hospital to get his foot checked - told him to get the word round how slippy things can be at this time of year ... he tells me they've already been doing this.

Anyway, too many people I know having accidents of one kind or another at the moment. Get better Kiwi then get flying again !

Damn mate, really sorry to hear about that. Glad to hear you've come away from it without too much injury.

Get well soon

Thanks for the well wishes.
Been out this morning to have a look at the damage.
Fairings knackered, Fuel Cans knackered, dash subframe knackered, looks like 1 rad punctured, oil leaking from somewhere. Tinted rear lens in one piece but the thin piece next to the grab rails gone. CF hugger looks like it's done some serious flexing and the gel coat peeling in places. crack in the belly pan. Gio will be pleased the seat hump is OK. Forks look OK but not sure. will have to see if it's written off. I don't know how it works now with insurance whether they'll take the lot or if some items might get misplaced :smt002

Only needs a bit of gaffa tape round that handle bar grip.

Dunno what the fuss is about. :smt017

:smt002

Looks easily fixable though, as long as the head stem hasnt parted from the frame and the rest of the frame n forks are straight.

Hmmm, if it's likely to be written off, what about the head-light? I'm still trying to sort out a UK replacement... :smt002

the headlight looked ok. most lugs seemed there.
I did a quick tot up using Yorkshire Aprilia's parts list and came to £2100 for the upper fairing, rad, cans, dash. Didn't include repaint to the tank or the scratched side fairings or mudguard. So given a Glasses guide of £3100 for dealer trade in and £4175 for an 05 with 5k on the clock for dealer sale I guess I'm looking at a write off.
