And all seems to have gone quiet on the Med Hughes front, he was up before magistrates about 10 days ago for his 3rd speeding offence (95 in a 60 limit, and he wasn't even on a bike), he was on holiday in North Wales and his mate Richard must have forgotten to let the lads know, (How sad
)
Med Hughes is Chief Constable of South Yorks and ACPO's lead spokesman on Speeding policy. He inherited this from Brunstrum.

And on a related theme, did you here the one about Scotland Yard.
Evidently they issued Credit Cards to officers for use when incurring out of pocket expenses. Seems they've being fraudulently buying flat screen TVs and all sorts of luxury goods for personal use. Nothing major though just £6 million spent in a fraudulent way. Let's now guess how many do you think will get caught and sent down?

Yeh well, maybe a couple of DCs.

If Brunstrom isn't going to get the sack then he should do the decent thing and offer to be the test dummy for all the tasers, I'm sure they have to check them to make sure they are working correctly.
I would never tire of seeing him taser'd, preferably without two stooges to stop him from falling flat on his nose.

But the anti-speed camera group Safe Speed said: "The hypocrisy is breathtaking. Mr Hughes should clearly have been preaching what he practices - because clearly he knows that exceeding the speed limit isn't necessarily dangerous."
Whilst enjoying the hypocrisy of the situation and glad to see such an outspoken cop get his deserts, it's the rant from Brake that winds me up (as usual):
Who died?
This is a victimless "crime" - a contravention of an arbitrary regulation FFS.
Whether it's you, me or even someone like Meredydd Hughes, it's still only a contravention of a regulation that someone has set at an arbitrary limit.
Perhaps where he broke the regulation was a place in which it was unwise to do so, maybe his speed was unsafe for the conditions - maybe it wasn't - but that's not what he's been found guilty of.
Sorry - rant over.
Deadly Crime ????Jools Townsend, of road safety campaigners Brake said Hughes' offence was "shocking" and called the sentence lenient.
"By committing this deadly crime, Hughes undermines the work of traffic police to protect the safety of road users, both within his force and across the country

Not a rant - absolutely right! All speed limits are entirely arbitrary. Cant be anything else whilst ever they are metal signs attached to lampposts and cant be changed minute by minute.D-Rider wrote:Whilst enjoying the hypocrisy of the situation and glad to see such an outspoken cop get his deserts, it's the rant from Brake that winds me up (as usual):

So what about those stupid overhead gantrys on the motorways, imo they've caused more accidents than they've stopped.lazarus wrote:Not a rant - absolutely right!
