My ride home (with special bike-push novelty section)

Ended up pushing tonight.

Came to the conclusion that these things work better when there is fuel in the tank!

Was going to fill up last night but the fuel station was shut when I got there - so thought I'd fill up on the way home tonight. Got to work fine this morning. Came to leave tonight, out of work, up to the end of the road to the busy roundabout, out to the middle of the roundabout turning right .... chug chug stop ... in the middle of a busy roundabout that has obscured views thinking "I'm going to die here trying to push my bike to the edge and then round to the exit". Somehow I managed it ... then began the push to Asda for fuel. A van stopped to ask if I'd fallen off (!) - but I appreciated the fact he'd stopped.
Just as I reached Asda a CBR600 stopped - he'd been going the other way up the dual carriageway and came back having spotted me.
We were both surprise to quickly spot that we knew each other - he was one of the lads from the CoventryBikers forum!

Well, got my fuel .... £17.50 worth went in - with the trip showing just 113 miles since it was last topped up .... that's 113 miles from full to bone-dry ..... which is why I'd not believed that I was about to run out!

Anyway after chatting to my mate it turns out that he was going to drop in on another forum member that only lives a few hundred yards away (I'd not realised they lived so close to work) as they were working on the R1 that one of the girls from the forum has just bought ... so popped round to have a look at thr R1.

So a bit of a mixed ride home ... unprecedented fuel consumption and an unexpected push but nice to meet up and have a look at the R1.

Anyone else ever run out of fuel that quick? (track-days excluded)

Not run out, but have had the light coming on below 100 miles - and not on a trackday either, just my regular commute. Summer was fun

How many miles did you get to the light showing?

think of the exercise you had andy.....

I think my worst was the fuel light coming on after 82 miles... 82 miles of hooning around the back roads like a tit but....

Not worse but I put in £16.50 yesterday with 173 miles on the trip.

My little CB5 died on a forcourt once and that was after just 150 odd miles including reserve (18 litres).

Mind you it'd just been rejetted and race can and etc, etc added, so can't complain after a spirited ride.

The very worst I got was the BB 120 miles to 22 litres, had about 1 litre left when I pulled into the petrol station.

183km, what's that in miles? After hacking round some Spanish mountain twisties I ran out on a long stretch of dual carriageway. Luckilly it was down hill so I coasted about another km and into the forecourt of a petrol station, which was closed. We'd bougt our Joy Pump with us, so the missus donated some fuel from her Fazer and I was able to get round to the open station on the other side of the road.

(Edit) Just worked it out, turns out it's 113.75 miles. Uncanny!

I thought we had 20 litre tanks ???

I dunno how much your petrol costs but surely it's around £1 = 1 litre so how come you only got 17 - 18 litres in

I always reckon on getting 40 miles from light on assuming that I take it easy-ish coz I get 40mpg + when I behave.

I've had nearly 180 miles out of the Falco and it took about 19 litres (that was the wet Mayday weekend).

Hate to say what it'd do on a track, 100miles perhaps?

As an aside the very best mileage I ever got was out my Pan Euro, 3 miles off 300 miles and it was a 24ltr refil

I get around 90-100 before reserve n then 30 ish after, but I ride like a twat most of the time so musn't grumble...

At least with petrol taps you knew when you went onto reserve, but i guess thats progress

I guess I've little excuse, my reserve light came on at a bit over 90 miles .... just thought it was having me on ....

The tankfull was all low-speed commuting - pootling about. I guess that they were all short journeys which wouldn't have helped. I usually have a journey or two that are a bit longer - but not this last week.

I think the falco does a better mpg when you push-on a bit.

Well, that's not unexpected, movement without burning fuel would give you a better MPG

Spirited riding/commuting over the mountain road to Douglas and back usually brings the fuel light on at 142 miles, give or take a few. I do not ride it with fuel economy in mind, but there again, I don't get stuck in any traffic either. The Falco can run very rich, and I suspect that bikes that can induce an empty tank at 113 miles, must be running quite rich, unless they are being run on a track.

My bike is unrestricted, with open race cans and a chip provided by a Belgian tuner, via Bef. I did have the 15t sprocket in the front but I switched this back to the 16t. This had only a very marginal effect on fuel consumption, as far as I have noticed.
