Thrust Bearing!

#1 Post by GregD-UK » Mon Oct 08, 2007 5:21 pm

Hi all,

OK, here goes, I thought I had a problem with my clutch, it was heavy and made quite a "Klunking!" noise when I engaged 1st. I duly ordered a new clutch and with the help of Pierre and Bigun would fit the new clutch sometime soon....

Alas, at the beginning of the week, started up and tried to engage 1st, just "Klunked!" and cut-out, tried a few times then thought I might be doing some damage and stopped. Took the clutch cover off and found that the thrust bearing and fell to bits basically :smt013 Also it of course mashed the springholder plate :smt013 Bigun told me that I had better replace the seals where the clutch shaft goes thru the drive mechanism. Can't seem to find the seal part numbers on the diagram for the clutch :smt017 Anyone had this problem before?

When I took off the clutch cover, engine oil started to seep out of my shiney new MPL Slave cylinder :smt017 Not good I thought. So, obviously the clutch hasn't been lifted off the drive when I have tried to change gear :smt009

My main question (eventually) was, what would of caused the thrust bearing to disintergrate? I don't want to put a new clutch in and thrust bearing and seals and find there is another problem....

Any help would be much appreciated guys :smt003

Cheers.

Warranty yeah rite!!

The only oil seal i can find on the clutch pushrod is on the slave cylinder side of the engine. If you have the parts diagrams it's tab46 part number 25. Can't find anything on the clutch side of the engine.

I would put up piccies but i don't know how so if you don't have the drawing could someone else please :smt100 .

Shame about your springplate but you might be able to recover it. Mine was damaged from the balls flying out, but nothing i couldn't polish out with some emery.

Thanks Fausto but it's not that one.

It's on drawing number 46 Showing the crankcases with the mentioned seal in the side.

This drawing does show the thrust bearing though and it's part number for replacement.

The pic's from the Aprilia yorkshire site are commonly posted here and the easy way is:-

Find the page you want, right click on the diag and select properties. There is an item titled Address[URL], highlight the URL, right click and copy (or Ctrl+C).

When writing your message in ridersite click the Img tab just below the subject header, paste the URL you copied (Ctrl+V) and click the Img tab again. Hit the preview button and presto!
