I know quite a few people who have bought from:
http://www.rockdirect.com/

Very good performance kit. I've seen their showroom and they build some quality stuff. They weren't quiet enough for my needs though (for presentations), I went Sony cos silence was more important than performance.

http://www.aciplc.com
For business I recommend ACI. Spent stacks with them over the years for myself and clients, purely on their reliability and support. They were offering free lifetime labour warranty back in early-nineties on laptops - unheard of! And are STILL offering it now. Read their "about us" page.

Again, when I was buying (and got the Sony), these guys were my first port of call and they responded honestly saying that their machines were not quiet enough. Rock didn't do that, they said I had to some and see.

Basic - dont need more than 40GB (never got remotely near filling that) dont need fast processor (no games, no video editing) just reasonable ram (say 500) and wireless enabled. Needs to be fairly robust. Most important issue is battery life - and cost
