Cue Benny Hill type quips...........
But seriously it's been in the news a lot lately and got me thinking. I used to have a card but it's long lost so I have just registered on the website.....
https://www.uktransplant.org.uk
.....all but my eyes anyway.... yuk!!
Anyway if anyone is considering becoming a donor take a look. You have to wait til you die though....

That is actually debatable. This pig of a government is thinking of making it law to use your "spare parts" unless you register with your doctor that you don't want to give up body bits.
But then again what about those bits doctors took without permission at Alder Hey hospital, I'd want to see the bastards prosecuted for theft.

I cannot see how they can make it Law to be honest. (Looking at the Site it's the Medical side of life that is pushing this.)
Organ donation is after all a wholly personal thing.
I did have a card once when I was younger. I shall have a look at the website and see

because of the law, the law needs changing
you may have signed uo to donate your otgans, then you die.
your family says no - thats it, end of subject - your wishes died with you, your family's decision is the final one
i am a trained renal nurse, and have been involved in transplants - and it is not straight forward - indeed if you were to go back to the RCN conference in 2000 you will find this issue was debated as a major concern - i know, i was the key note speaker...
trust me, this is a no brainer - just decide what you want, and make your family agree to those wishes

I carry a donor card, but if they make it law it'll be ripped up.
I'm sorry but I can't agree with you saying that if your family say no then it can't happen, if you carry a card they won't even ask your family, its as simple as that.

The law did change in 2006, but it is still very hard for a doctor, or transplant coordinator to over rule a grieving relative - trust me, I have been there, and it is very hard to do. Because of the need for organs, people bodies are released to undertakers in a different way - so the family does have to know that that is happening - and that is where it can get sticky, and confrontational.
Also, note that the HTA only applies to UK citizens (In fact I think it is only England Scotland and Wales but am unsure). With our increasing polyglot country that has its own problems, especially when you start to throw ethnic diversity into the equation - getting a 1 - 1 - 1 match is hard at the best of times
I am strongly in favour of any legislation that lets those that need organs, get them - and if that means the medical staff can make assumptions with out upsetting relatives, good
What some people here may not be aware of is that some of us know people waiting transplant - and your views can change considerably when you live with some one on the list

I've been carrying a card for years and registered for bone marrow donations and I just gave blood today, god I'm so good it hurts.
Seriously though, I've had a few arguments with Mrs Falcopops about the organ donation thing, I've ticked all the boxes including the leaqving my body to medical science and she's not happy.
I've stressed that it's my wish and should be honoured, but I could see her refusing if asked.
She's got a real problem with the eye's thing too.

Yes, that would be about right... unless you wanted to frame it for posterity!
I've not paid too much attention this time around, but all previous attempts have been described as a change from the current "opt in" system to one where you have to "opt out" if you really object.
Where's the problem?? If you don't like it, OPT OUT.
...and opting out simply because it is "compulsory" is just childish.
I think this is one of the few issues where I
want officialdom to take control. I must be coming down with something!!!
(...and Mrs G has the same "eyes" issue

)

Would you want any of your body bits given to some scumbag from abroad who sponges off the state to have the use of them?
