Just picked up a Triumph TT600 for a friend

#1 Post by jam » Fri Jun 22, 2007 10:54 pm

Tonight I collected a TT600 for a good friend of mine, he got it for his son, off ebay. A 51 plate in silver 11000 miles, it was a cat D three years ago and was properly repaired at a Triumph dealership, where it also had a remap for the micron can. The price of this little beauty...... £1360.00 with 12 months MOT.
I rode it back for him and it rides really well, the fueling was spot on, 28mph in top no stutter when snapped open, and picked up all the way to 140(Private roads :smt002 ) The suspension was a little harsh on the rear, but the guy it came from weighed about twice what I do. Brand new Diablo on the rear and nearly new front. I think he's got a cracking little bike for next to nothing, came with seat hump and can hanger to remove footrests from the back. I don't know much about these, having never worked on one. Are there any particular things to watch out for? Or just the usual?

Lemme think..

Check the coolant S.G. They run hot and a poor mix will wreck 'em.

If the battery goes flat or you disconnect it, you have to fully heat cycle the engine hot to fully cold 3 times to turn off the engine warning light.

The recalls need to have been done. most important one was the fuel tank connections. VIN No down the phone to the local dealer or Trumpet themselves should let you know if owt is still outstanding there.

They love decent tyres. mine runs corsas and thrives on 'em.

A double bubble is a good extra. the std screen can be a tw*t when riding fast directing the air in entirely the wrong places, regardless of height.

It's had the remap for the can? cool. They are very tune reliant. if it's wrong it'll run really bad. Mine runs bad, but im lazy and i like the Gixxer slabside - like throttle response.. :smt005 :smt005

The speedo sensor does fail. ensure which bit has failed if it does. one costs 30 quid, the other 80.. easy repair though.

Other than that... nowt really. a wolf in sheep's clothing. Ride it like you stole it. They love dominance.

Cat D has never been a problem with insurance, I've done several of my own and the insurance is always pre accident value once the bike is re MOTd, it just seems that people have a problem in their heads and it's a myth that insurance companies have a problem. As long as the bike has been repaired and MOTd again properly the insurance value is the same as before it was damaged. Thanks for the info on recalls I'll pass that on to himand get it cheked. The bike was as smooth as silk to ride and pulled cleanly in top from 2000rpm with no stutter or problems. Screen appears to be a Double bubble already, and the tyres are Diablos. He got it taxed this morning and has been enjoying himself all day on it. cheers for the pointers everyone
