Group Buy of Scotts Oil Filters ?

How about a group buy of Scotts filters?

These are stainless steel filters that are able to be cleaned and last a lifetime.
They are a US product but don't seem to be imported to UK - although some US vendors will ship them here.
With the news that Aprilia are changing the filter design, this may be a good idea.

Problem with them is that even though they cost reasonable $79, shipping is $60 (the same shipping price for 2 though). Take into account customs possibility tho.

I had a bit of a search last night - best price I found was $71 .... but don't know what shipping was (and can't remember who was selling them .... think it began with an "H"

I'd never come across these until I saw them in the thread on AF1.
Shame they don't actually import them over here.

I might be up for one if I can spend the money without being detected by the "Domestic Chancellor".

Just to pee everyone off...

well, just to put over a con to the pros..

These filters are great. Theyre Bril! They are cleanable and filter right down to the smallest little micron.

But cleaning em is where it falls down.

Unless done properly, with the proper kit in the proper way, you'll end up compromising your engine with those filtered out bits of crud getting washed out of the filter and onto the wrong side, then put back in and swept off the wrong side of the filter and back into the engine.
Doing it properly with the proper kit in the proper manner is time consuming, will ultimately be dirty and an arseache. Metal filters are really hard to clean properly. You'll reduce the filtration capability of it aint done properly. Can You (royal) clean it properly? Are you sure?

I'd stick with the standard paper filter

Come to think of it, you must be right. It makes sense to put a brand new filter with a brand new oil at the same time... The question is: will we have any choice of paper filters - say - in 5 years?

Probably - apparently the same filter is used on other engines .... it's just a case of finding out which ones and then ordering carefully.

The alternatives are to stock up now or move over to the new filter and cap and make sure you always use the new filter.

It's no great problem .... just important that we all understand that we mustn't use an 'old style' filter with a 'new style' filter cap.
