Gio would have you believe the 80s were my finest hour ...

... AD80 when I built Hadrians wall,

but actually it was the 1960s, :smt003
When I say actually I probably mean allegedly cos as they say, if you were there you wouldn't remember it. :smt017

See you've forgotten Norm :smt005

Overall I'd go for the 60's as well.

Was the last time we played football properly, we had a total eclipse of the sun in '66, I was in Italy when we won the World Cup all the Italians went mad cos they hated the Germans.

The cartoonists had their favourite figures of fun Harold (50p) Wilson and Ted (shoulder shaker) Heath.

Scotland was a country most people had never heard of.

Proper winters and wet summers :smt005

Music, mmmmm rolling stones, the who, chicago, etc

My bet is that the favourite decade for nearly all of us will be the one in which we spent our 17-20 years.

For me, the '70s (specifically early to mid) ..... The music, starting out on bikes, that wonderful summer of '76 where we completely forgot what rain was (sod the inconvenience of hose pipe bans and stand-pipes) and all at a time before Thatcher had wreaked her havoc.

Happy days.

Norm, Have to agree.
I took the first GCSEs.
But starting from the start of the 80s (that i can remember at least..)
1. Falklands War. Chinooks flying overhead daily. Belgrano sunk on my Birthday. Yaay! Maggie Thatcher waving the Troops off and the Troops waving back. Pomp and circumstance on the docks at Portsmouth. Gurkhas being sent out and the Argentinians shittin' themselves at the prospect. Sir Galahad getting trashed and Andy flying a Helicopter.Harrier and Vulcan the choice weapon in the Air.
2. BMXs, BMX Bandits, Kickstart and the like on TV, everyone wanted to be on Kickstart and as soon as it was finished, me and me mates went out on our bikes and recreated the programme on the Pub carpark. I had a Chopper, my mates all had Grifters and BMX's. I could wheelie the chopper for a mile, they could wheelie the BMX for about 300metres. We used to jump too. Proper hardcore pedal flat out and launch stuff. Brendan binned his Grifter, landing on Solly, I just cleared 6 lads on the chopper, Toby managed to jump about 8 before creaming in on his BMX (HARO.. posh tw*t)
3.School was fun, stick guns and chatting up girls, snogging and avoiding holding hands. Stories written in English about flying Stukas, Spitfires and Mosquitos, Line drawn tanks on school exercise books. Covering yer books in wallpaper.
4. Staying out with no communication with yer parents, walking in yer mates house and having breakfast cos he were'nt up. School holidays were about 6 years long and you went in when it was dark if you could be bothered. Nobody raped or died and trees were designed to fall out of. Cars never run you over but they tried their best. You could wheelie yer bike well before the cars got to you and they didnt have loud stereos. Boyracing was a Capri with stripes or a Cortina GXL
5. Adam Ant was brilliant and everyone got dressed up as him on the wedding of Charles n Di. Street parties and football in between jumpers as goalposts. Brazil were awesome as a team and Solly looked like Pele. Argentina were the team everyone wanted to play as and Maradona was a God.( Later he was a tw*t but then, a God..)
6. When it was wet you played subbuteo, when dry you went fishing for minnows, Pike scared the shite out of you and were like rottweilers
7. Nottingham Forest were the Super reds and Liverpool and Man Utd tried to compare. Norwich city won the Milk Cup.
8. The RD250 and 350 ruled on one wheel
The GPz900R was a proper sportsbike and Kawasakis ruled the roads
'GPz.. Be the fastest rider on any road..'

Ah happy days...

That was just the start of the 80's but I'll only get grumpy if I continue, lol!

Child of the 60's. Well impressionable early teens.

My brother was four years older so I was following Hendrix, Cream & John Mayal etc from about 11. First album I bought was Led Zepplin 1.

He became a 'Mod' for the women and so about 1971 I had to learn to ride on a hand me down Lambretta TV175..... Maybe cool now but it didn't realy go with the leather fetish......

But the question was?

Happiest decade may even be this.
Don't put off 'till tomorrow what you can enjoy today

The 50s, Crikey I hear you say, but believe me thats when it all started. It was a time when suddenly your push bike and childish things suddenly didnt cut the mustard anymore, suddenly girls bodys started having certain effects in your lower regions, and instead of listening to your parents boring records 78*s, Some American singers by the names of Little Richard, Bill Haley, and many more and of course not forgetting the King, Elvis the pelvis, suddenly opened up a new era for youth, Earlier on Teddy boys were in fashion along with drainpipe trs, drape jackets and the ducks arse hairstyle, oh yes and luminous socks. I well remember my dad chucking them in the fire! If there was a punch up on a Saturday night it was just with fists not with guns and knives and using someones head as a football. The law WAS the law and if your local copper caught you offending it was a belt round the ear, there was none of this stupid political correctness, sure some times were hard, but we had a childhood, felt safe out of sight of our parents, played far and wide, didnt sit in all day playing computer games getting slowly brain dead and any wrongdoers were severly dealt with, 10 years inside meant 10 years and not a couple. I well remember a mate who got 3 months in Borstal for selling black market fags and when he came out , he swore that the experience was so horrible he would never do anything wrong again, he went on to become a successful buisnessman and a pillar of society, Oh and before I forget our ambitions were to have a BSA Gold Star, Black leather Jacket, boots with seaboot socks and if you could afford it one of those new Jet style helmets. Yes those were the days. mumble, mumble. :smt003 :smt003
