We all need to be aware of this design change and incompatibility between filters and filter covers.
I believe this is the Official Aprilia Bulletin:
"For RSV/TUONO/SL/RST/ETV 1000: As a result of an improvement works of the motor has been modified the filter oil. The new filter is longer. The cover and the lives have been modified consequently. The old filter cod. code AP0256187 and the old cover code AP0210415 are nomore available. At the next substitution of the oil filter, becomes necessary to replace the filter cover and cover's bolts with the new ones."
Here the product codes:
OIL FILTER
AP0256187 (old)
AP0956745 (new)
OIL FILTER COVER
AP0210415 (old)
AP0610233 (new)
BOLTS
AP0241932 (old)
AP0840880 (new)
This is the comment on this from the technical guys at AF1:
More discussion on this over on the AF1 forum:Its going to be a big mess....this bulletin (NOT A RECALL) came to us about 2 weeks ago.....and the mess was discussed at the Vegas meeting. People who use the old filter with a new cover are going to have problems.
We're going to keep using the old ones and the aftermarket ones until they are all gone. Nobody has ever had any oil filter issues.....bikes are going plenty of miles with this setup over the last 8 years.
Until we emailed Aprilia USA, they had never heard of the new part numbers. We got them to add it to the USA system, but none are in stock for probably 4-8 weeks. Also, the new filters cost double and the new filter cover costs like $30.
