Brake rotors - Brembo or Galfer?

Hi all,

Looking at new brake rotors for the bike and after eliminating vast amounts of cheap crap from China (seriously? AU$200 for a pair of rotors? I'm not risking my life with them).

I've narrowed it down to either genuine Brembo rotors at AU$800 (with pads), or a set of Galfer wavy rotors for AU$600 (without pads). Note that a set of pads will be less than AU$200.

Does anyone have any comments / recommendations / caveats to help me make a decision, please?

It's the V-twin thing. There's just something about it that inline-4s don't have at all, and V-4s don't have enough of.

I have heard a bit of praise for the Blackshadow rotors, also praise for Gallfers BUT Gaflers do not like anything like damp weather at all.
Blackshadow are made in Wales, therefore weatherproof !
Your call as only you know the weather where you are ( you lucky git :smt002 )

I've not bought any discs from them but I have bought a set of rotor buttons to refurb some old discs. Not fitted them yet but they were a good company to deal with.

Thanks guys,

The weather here alternates between "Where did I park my submarine?" to "Why is the road melting?". Quite often on the same day...

Wow.. Much time between visits. *sad face*

The rotors never got bought because I've moved into a house with my GF and I had long forgotten how expensive an experience that is. (Add in a 10% pay cut with the new job, and what few spare pesos I had are suddenly few and far between.)

Thankfully it's winter down here and too cold / wet to ride, so the bike has been tucked up warm and dry in the garage.

Which reminds me - it needs a service. :-(

Hi Viking,

I think I've still got a set of OE rotors somewhere that have done negligible mileage. Originally I ground the bobbins off to replace the rotors with some PFM ductile iron ones I had spare, so the OE rotors (I think) are still kicking around somewhere. Come to think of it I might even have the OE carriers with PFM rotors somewhere. Or again, perhaps not. Let me check and get back to you.

It's difficult being a hoarder with a crap memory...

Well I've definitely still got the OE carriers with PFM rotors, if you're interested, Viking. Very little use and the rotors have even been zinc coated to inhibit rust.
