Biker down

#1 Post by Gio » Fri Jul 07, 2017 8:31 pm

Yes its my turn, Wednesday morning in Kingston upon Thames, got taken out at a measly 10mph, busted right wrist, the bike is minus most of its front end, it just exploded, but i got off light. so now a 1 fingered typist, waiting to be plated and screwed back together. not sure how the insurance will deal with it as my mind just went blank, docs think its the shock.

So will not be posting much, but will lurk. Hope everyone is enjoying the pleasant weather, I am :)

It's about time you gave up doing that you know, we don't bounce as well when we're older! Hope it gets sorted soon.

What he said
For the avoidance of doubt and for the benefit of my wife, not everything I may say here will be absolutely true I may on ocassion embellish a little for effect.
That said when it comes to motorbikes, I like to ride side saddle with a nice frock

Crap thing to happen but glad you're not too badly damaged. Swift recovery Gio! :smt006

Thankyou one and all, reason I posted it was there were 3 others taken out all within a 1 mile radius, which caused even more chaos as atm we have the Hampton Court flower show and Wimbledon tennis to contend with, I hate Surrey during the summer lol.

Bobbi thank God it wasn't fast enough to bounce :smt005 Just slid off the side of the bike, the right side this time though, bike right me left. :smt003

Ooooh dear.

Speedy recovery Peter. Hope you recover well and either reassemble an exploded bike or turbo-charge a mobility scooter or something.

All the best.

Last week's Radio Times and half a roll of gaffer tape wrapped round wrist will see you ok - stop being a blouse and griping like a girl... :smt119

Seriously though it's a complete fucker to have that happen - I'm still painfully reminded of my horizontal biking moment at Cadwell a few years ago ...

You can fix the bike - just after the bones have fixed...

Happy reading!

Bones all back n place fortunately teh scalpoid was only cracked but the ulna (3 places) and the radius (2 places) took the brunt, they are now screwed and plated back together and the swelling is going down nicely. Only problem they can see is there is wear on the carpal nerve and I have 3 numb fingers but they work alright, so not worried myself about that as it could just be a previous injury playing up (ganglion removal 14 years ago).

Going to see the bike tomorrow and take some pics. Anyway it'll be at least 2 months before i can get back on it so not worried about the time.
Take care and ejoy your riding, looks like nice weather lol.

Damaged nerves often heal but it takes ages. I seem to remember its something like 2mm per week. Certainly when I had my off it was a good 6 months before all feeling returned. But it got there.

Hope you recover quickly.

All the best for a speedy recovery, mate.

Update, I have now got a specialist dealing with the problems I have, the plate is going to be taken out as its not helping at all, my surgeon thinks that I will have 75-80% mobility after he's finished, which is good enough for me as the left wrist has only 85% of what it used to have, nerve damage is extensive so they are going to remove the wrist ones. The only thing is and I'm not sorry is that I'll not be getting back on a road bike, but it means that now I'll be fixing the CB400 and doing shows with it, so sometime in the next year or so I'll be dragging a trailer round with it onboard.

The Blackbird is now in my garage as the 3rd party has paid up (written off) but its all plastics plus 2 mirrors and headlight, the front forks are fine (they were put on a rig to see) which goes to show how slow the accident was. Not being greedy about the compensation offered I accepted £10,000, plus the bike and £4,000 for the write off.
So parts we reckon are about £1600 plus repaint, a friend has told me it'll cost £5-600 to do that and I'll have a bike to sell. Did think about changing a few bits but it seems they're worth more in standard trim.
