I hate to ask for car advice on here ....

#1 Post by fatboy » Sat Sep 10, 2016 6:05 pm

My bloody windscreen wipers wont switch off, off is on, intermittent is as is, on is on ect.
Done what most would do, contact spray on switch contacts, wipers are on all the time with the block connector removed from switch...
Most immediate solution would be to remove fuse or relay...if I could find the sodding thing.
Im sure you can imagine how nice it is hearing wipers dragging across a dry windscreen :smt013
Its an 02 Octavia Tdi

Thanks Dale :smt009
The bike will be used most of the week as the weather looks pretty good :smt002
I use the car in shitty weather to stop the bike getting trashed by rain and salt, when I did my shock linkage bearings a few weeks ago I felt genuine remorse for putting the bike through that....

I would imagine he relay has stuck?
Start with the basics first and change that.

Set fire to it. Claim a new one from the insurance. Or, if you insurance doesn't cover you for setting fire to your own vehicle, pay some scally to do it for you. :smt002
Most motorcycle problems are caused by the nut that connects the handle bars to the saddle.

Depends on year/country of manufacture, they may be here, they may not.
Every sodding car I owned 'seems to have been built in the crossover period so it may be these brake pads or those brake pads' ect.
Cant wait to get stuck into this really interesting job

Just be thankful it's not a Fiat! When I had one the only way to get the correct part you needed was to take off the old one and take it to a fiat spares department so they could see which of the 3 or 4 or 5 with that part number was actually the right one!

I finally got this nailed thanks to a really sound auto electrician.
I spoke to him in the week, told him the car model and the problem, He said 'They can be really difficult to diagnose because of interlinked circuits'.
He opened up his workshop this morning just to look at my car, spent over an hour and used a lot of diagnostic kit, pulled the relay apart, sorted the problem and gave me his verdict...
'All related circuits are fine so relay is the culprit, working again and does not look too bad. The relay you need is obsolete, the new version is about £75, here is the part number, on ebay from £4 upward, dont buy the cheapest, go for mid range'
He asked for £20 for all that so I stuffed £40 in his hand and he insisted on giving me a tenner back...
Bloody star !

Glad it's sorted, not the time of year to be FORCED to ride!

Mike had a car electrics problem, he phoned the auto leccy bloke who sorted my Superdream, he diagnosed it over the phone, told Mike exactly how long it would take to fix and how much it would cost. Sometimes it's better just to get a man who can!
