Coolant tank level indicator.

#1 Post by Squishbang » Mon Jun 06, 2016 11:32 am

I have done a search. But could not find any info. The small length of clear pipe that is used a a level indicator. I noticed was leaking at the bottom pipe clip. When I removed the pipe it had a 10 MM. crack in it.
Would a piece of polyurethane pipe suffice as a replacement and am I right in thinking that the reservoir does not get pressured up. Therefore the thickness of the replacement pipe in not an issue.
Thanking you in advance of your words of wisdom.

Hi Bert, I have had my resv. cap off (oo err missis) when its running, so don't believe it is pressurised.
Bung some pipe on there and see what happens, i'm sure you will be ok for everyday use.

Mine died a death a few years ago, its not available as a spare.
One guy replied he replaced his with some clear tube he found in B&Q.
I replaced mine with some of that clear hose with the criss cross fabric in it, cant really see through it but the level is about right with the coolant about 20mm below the filler cap

Thanks for the info. I have found some 10mm od , 7mm id clear polyurethane hose. But that means the side wall is only 1.5mm thick. So was a bit concerned about using it. But it will get me back on the road for the time being and I can carry a spare "get me home" piece with me just in case .
However, if I find something clear and sturdier I will post it up.

Changed mine over winter as it had gone rotten and started leaking. I used some tube out the shed that I got from work years ago and a couple of jubilee clips. Seems to be doing ok.

I know it was lab grade, we were using it to run chemicals through, but I can't remember what it was now. It wasn't anything flash as we used tons of the stuff and never reused it.
Where ever I lay my hat.....
