Marzocchi fork springs

#1 Post by spiderwheels » Thu Apr 07, 2016 7:14 pm

I have downloaded the Marzocchi manual and swapping the springs / changing the oil looks straight forward.

Are the springs the same as in the Showas? (to make ordering some new ones easier)

I'm contemplating getting some hyperpro progressive springs. Do they come in different spring rates (i.e. different range of progressive rates)?

Now I'm running lighter wheels there is less to damp so would it be worth running a lighter oil in the forks? I'm don't weigh a lot myself.
Insert humourous comment here

No not really. The bit you are damping is not really the wheel but you and the bike - they are the bits moving with the wheels "fixed" on the floor.

The only way to be sure would be to measure the springs (free length, outside diameter and internal diameter). Otherwise it's just guesswork. I may have a spare Showa set I can measure; if so I'll post up details.

The Hyperpro progressive springs are excellent in my opinion. I really rate them. But there is only one model, with a pre-defined progressive rate. Having said that, being progressive, they suit a wider variety of rider weights etc. than a single-rate spring.

I think they're different. Revs changed the ones in my Marzocchi's but he didn't order the new ones until he'd stripped my forks and measured the old ones. Not sure what he put in but they would have been Hyperpro or Wilbur's and they're very good. I didn't keep the old ones so I can't measure them but he should be able to point you in the right direction.
Where ever I lay my hat.....
