Winter Hibernation

#1 Post by fatboy » Thu Mar 03, 2016 6:29 pm

Well I'm really pleased to say the Falc fired up with no real problems after being laid up for four months or more.
Today swapped all bleed nipples for stainless ones, fitted Barnett kevlar clutch kit, minor problem is cant select neutral with engine running, think I may have been a bit generous with my coating of oil on clutch plates, will do an oil change tomorrow and see how it goes....
be good to test that clutch kit in anger !

That'll be interesting at the lights if you stall it :smt010
I hate it when people ask if you have a bathroom, I want to say "No we pee in the garden"

Well the oil change made no difference but I have not had chance to ride it and get the new oil really circulating to see if that frees up the clutch plates, the sunshine turned to sleet just as I finished the oil change.
Thanks for that reminder Gio about stalling at traffic lights !

I'm doing some work on mine today, full service, changing back to the sl carbon Eprom, balance the thottle bodies, and giving it a damn good clean!

What made you want to change the clutch in the first place?

Hi all,

What pieces of kit do you need to balance the TB's? Just out of interest :smt003
My warranty is the clear/smoked tail lights around the corner!!

Or a set of vacuum gauges. Think mine cost me £50 several years ago and they have paid for themselves many times over.

Hi Dale,
the original clutch seemed to be spanked, just slippped with a bit of spirited riding, different oil and new springs made no difference so I sourced some EBC friction plates, they do not fit early models, the stack hight to great to fit into the clutch basket leading to catastrophic burning of friction material.
This latest problem is down to my own lack of understanding kevlar friction material and the instruction 'wipe off excess oil'.
I did thinking that an oil soak would be good but if you reed the reports on clutch jets then too much oil causes these problems.
It does not work like any other wet multi plate clutch and I set about this task as if I was working on a Meridan Bonnie

The SL Carbon eprom is a proper thug, , like a night club bouncer on speed, total handful and needs treating with some respect. You know it will respond only with brutality and no finesse,
So pissed off that I fried mine along with a Gabro due to a severed earth to the ecu

That sucks about the clutch and the burned EPROMs!

Yeah, I tried one of Edd's chips, but its just too labouring at low speed and low rpm. The sl was a better all rounder for me.

I've got the standard chip as well, but i've never actually used it!

Actually didn't get round to doing my service in the end, ran out of time in the day. I'll do it tomorrow instead!

Im running with a Forza at the mo, good and smooth, yeah maybe gutless at lower rpm, the stock chip is not that bad at all, I got less than 10 miles before the ecu cooked but the Gabro had the clear edge over the Forza, the lunacy of an SL Carbon in terms of brutal acceleration but refined, yes I will buy another
