What part of NO dont you understand?

#1 Post by fatboy » Fri Jan 08, 2016 7:06 pm

Today was our first day of strike action, pay negotiations having been dragged up and down the garden path and gone nowhere.
Management then decided to involve ACAS, we agreed to suspend strike action as a gesture of goodwill, the result was a 7 hour meeting that achieved nothing.
The company sees my pay claim for a living wage as unreasonable, we
should go away and come back with a more reasonable demand, the current financial climate, we only made £85.9 million pre tax profit blah bla blah.
Every single union member was on the picket line today, 3 agency drivers refused to cross the line, 3 more resigned in protest.
We told you every meeting since September that 2% of fuck all amounts to fuck all

I would just like to say I hope you get somewhere with this as FFS there is a duty of care and all that bollocks but there is just common decency and common sense neither of which seem to be in evidence from your firm

Thanks.
They will pay more in the way of fines and clear up costs than our pay claim would have cost, I guess it is a case of push turns to shove.
Someone has to stand up to these morally demished bastards

Well I'm very pleased to say we did get somewhere with this !
The final pay offer ( before industrial action ) was 3% which would have raised my earnings to 19 pence per hour below the living wage.
A few weeks of an overtime ban and 3 seperate days of strike action and we accepted a new pay offer today,
9% backdated to last July ( when this should have been settled).
We also had a surprise visit from the MD, he spent half a day on site speaking to the guys, guageing opinion.
Today, when he made the new pay offer, he also apologised for the prolonged mis management, accepted full responsibilty and promised change.
So I'm guzzling a cold one now, job done :smt002

Nice one, FB. Let's hope that your MD's words translate into positive action.

Nice one!

Thanks all !
I'm really pleased with the outcome, not only because of the payrise but because we took on a multi billion earning company, they decided to push and all the guys stood firm.
There was the expected propoganda war ( Kier's dis imformation web page )
the management calling the police to deal with our 'unlawful' actions, when they turned up they said ' Your actions are well organised, well disciplined and well within the law. We assume you are locked out of the premises because you are striking so you are welcome to use the toilet facilities in the police station next door.
All in all a major result in the people before profit battle

Well done all for standing firm - a fine manifestation of the old Cooperative movement motto "In Unity, Strength"

Great news

Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...

It certainly sounds like a good result, hope it all turns out that way.
