Thunderbirds

#1 Post by T.C. » Sat Nov 14, 2015 10:46 pm

Anyone a fan of the original 1965 Thunderbirds? If like me you are a child of the 60's, then maybe like me you grew up with it. I was fortunate enough to go to school with a couple of kids whose parents worked for Gerry Anderson and go to see them make the original programmes back in the 60's.

Well, they are currently making 3 new programmes using the original studios and techniques to celebrate the 50th anniversary.

I have just pre ordered the DVD as they will not be on general release, but if you are interested and want to know more, then have a look at https://www.kickstarter.com/projects...1960s-recordin

Me too - the new modern version doesn't do it for me at all!

It is OK, but still prefer the original.

Apparently the major backers had a private screening last Monday of the 3 new episodes, so can't be too long now until we lesser mortals and smaller backers get our copies of the DVD :smt001

Excellent TC. I have been a great fan right from the early Four Feather Falls, Fireball XL5, Supercar, etc etc.

Very excited :smt001

Had a really good look around the studios today when we werre part of the guided tour before everything gets pulled down.

Really interesting learning how they made the new programmes, handling the models and puppets and seeing just how scruffy the sets are but how good it looks on screen.

Can't wait for my DVD's to arrive now

Reads on their website as if they won't be available on general release, is this correct? Any way people who didn't invest can get to see them?

Such a shame Mrs A passed away recently and didn't live long enough to see the release.

They will not be on general release.

In order to obtain a copy, investors had to register up to about 6 months ago (I paid in November) and then after that no further orders would be accepted. At the studio tour last week they said that we should be receiving the discs within about a month, and yesterday, the discs went into production.

Apparently there are no plans for the new episodes to be made available on general release at the moment, but there is a hope from the producers that one of the big TV companies might take it up and then if successful commision a new series but using modern technology and of course in most cases new voices as well, but it would remain supermarionation rather than CGI.

If I hear anything about general release, I will let you know. I regret that I will not be allowing my copy to go anywhere :smt002

Davshill. Sylvia Anderson did see the finished project when she attended the premier screening in London a couple of months ago, and she regularly visited the studio during filming as she only lived a couple of miles away.

Which will lead to an urgent phone call to Tracy Island.
Thunderbirds 1, 2 & 3 will be scrambled (Thunderbird 2 having been loaded with The Mole - Thunderbird 4 being put on standby)

Thunderbirds will be "GO"

The perpetrator will be swiftly identified, captured and imprisoned and all servers hosting the streams will be closed down (all before anybody has time to capture any of the streams).

All contained - no problem !
