Ethanol remover?

#1 Post by BikerGran » Mon Oct 19, 2015 3:48 pm

I know nothing about it but attention was drawn on another forum.

Clearly it's only going to be of use to someone who doesn't use their plastic-tanked bike all the time as it would be too much faff to keep doing it, but could be useful in some cases - if it actually does what it says.

Interesting and according to this it seems to work to some degree:

Then again, isn't Ethanol there to boost the octane rating, as well as supposedly being a "green" alternative to petrol?
Simple answer is just to use super unleaded fuel for the present time, until that get polluted with the same stuff.
That will probably be cheaper than cooking unleaded plus the additive.

Rather an interesting note here https://www.steeltank.com/Portals/0/Art ... stated.pdf.

I know for a fact that several forecourts over the last few years have been closed to have new tanks fitted, one after just 5 years in use.

Maybe they didn't do the required cleaning/sludge removal mentioned in the article?

Maybe.
I'm told that Murco garages do what is termed pure petrol, ie no additives like ethanol.

I think we've already established that most super unleaded is ethanol free - not just Murco.

And their ordinary unleaded DOES have it.

That article was written over 15 years ago. Hardly up to the minute stuff...?

Yup, I've lived in this neck of the woods almost 30 years and there's still problems with garages tanks.
