Mine is 245k in both directions but Tiscali sell me 2Mb and the little windows icon says 2.3Mb. Yet when I downlaod a file, Firefox usually says sometyhing like 35kB.

So whats happening. Seems my broadband is simply dial up. :smt013

Its all down to how many are sharing in your area, which is a contention issue (I think)

I left Tiscali (business dial up account) due to their absolutely appalling contention ratio. They said it was... cant remember.. 7:1 (seven subscribers to one server's bandwidth) where in reality it was shown as 25:1 when I enquired with the tech support team. Tiscali doth suck and blow, all at the same time.

More info on contention ratios here: http://www.idnet.net/broadband/contentionratio.jsp

Saying that, it sounds like you're limited by settings, not your ISP.

Have you tried running the full test at www.pcpitstop.com ? Very good for highlighting issues with your hardware and software. :smt001
