My Round.

#1 Post by Dalemac » Fri Jul 17, 2015 8:00 am

My girlfriend of 5 and a half years has decided she wants to split up. Things haven't been great for a while, but i thought we could sort out our problems. Apparently i was wrong, so this came as quite a shock to me.

Anyway, please join me for a drink.

Dale

That's tough Dale - 5 and a half years of your life invested is quite a chunk and the emotional upheaval must be tough.

Logic says it's better than extending the 5 and a half to 10 or 20 years and it still not working but I know that logic won't make it any less painful.

All the best mate - I'll join you drowning those sorrows

Yep, we were talking about getting married and having kids not too long ago.

This break up is made more complicated by the fact we bought a house two years ago - it's not like we can just cancel the rent and move on swiftly. This is going to take some time, which will probably just make it harder.

Really sorry to hear that Dale. I've been through similar and it's like someone just pulled the floor out from underneath your feet. Unfortunately from what you say there will be some tough times before it gets better. I know it doesn't feel like a positive at the moment, but at least you will separate without kids being involved. That has to be a good thing.

And if you can work out the house details amicably between yourselves, so much the better. As soon as lawyers get involved it's bye-bye large sums of money...

I split with wife (25 years together) almost 2 years ago,,,and things still aint sorted out properly. But because we are doing it amicably and not through solicitors its costing a lot less money.

Chin up mate,,it will get better.

My daughter recently split with her partner of 7 years - well that's not accurate, he just up and left. It happened back in January and she was totally devastated at the time but here we ar 6 months on and she's beginning to see how completely self centred he was. It suited him at the time to be with Lucy - and now it suits him not to be with her.

She's moving on and making the most of life as a singleton - she's still got ties with him because they are involved in two businesses together and it's not easy, but what I'm trying to say (and I've been there too!) is that the shock and hurt DO wear off, and sometimes life can be better without the person you thought was goiung to be always there for you - I hope it'll be like that for you, and that's what I'll drink to!

Cheers for all of the support guys, it definitely helps.

In a minor update, Her parents, who are awesome people and I get on well with are coming over tomorrow with the aim of helping us communicate - obviously things between me and becky are tense and awkward, so hopefully we will be able communicate better and maybe even work something out. I know it is only a small slither of hope, but it is enough to help get me through what is going to be another lonely evening.

Hope you find happiness

Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...

Sorry to hear of your troubles.
BG.s words are indeed wise, everything hurts like hell at the moment but that won't always be the case, things will make sense again.

Well, there is no doubt that we will be breaking up now.

This sucks, but at least things are now clearer.

Yes we've most of us benefitted at some time or other from sharing our problems on here - we may have never met in the real world but we can still support and help each other!
