Carbon Ceramic brake pads

I bought some new brembo pads for the front and in an effort to avoid sintered pads I ordered carbon ceramic pads instead. I should have ordered plain organic for the road.

Has anyone used these on the road and in the wet when they won't have much heat in them?

Never tried them but heard the stories that they don't grip when cold.
If they are marked 'race use only' then you may well be taking a chance, eg. how long do they retain heat for ? ect.
Why are you avoiding sintered pads ?

They don't say for race use only on the packet but it is suggested around the web.

I've haven't got on with sintered pads on past bikes. What does the falco come with as standard?

Doh !
I've just looked at what I'm using with no worries/problems and they are ceramic carbon.
So I get no points for paying attention.
I have Gold Fren HH front and rear,used the same for several years,no issues.
Confused them with full ceramic hobbies,which are race orientated.
Again, Doh.
PS, Im assuming the standard pads would be Brembo as calipers are Brembo

Standard Falco pads are organic (from what I remember)
The brand surprised me - they were Toshiba - but maybe Aprilia used other brands too,

Toshiba did the OE pads for VFRs of a certain era as well. I think the standard pads on the 4-pad Brembos were actually Brembo though.

Well I can answer my own question now. Brembo do two carbon ceramic pad compounds, one for road and one for race. The road one is their non-sintered pad.

When my sunstar disc's turn up I'll see what happens..

I've always used sintered pads because their performance in the wet is excellent, a must have if you ask if me you ride all year round.

I have used Gold Fren carbon ceramic (road) pads on both bikes for some time.
I like them and have had no problems, and now buy them as a first preference.
One added benefit is that they they do not seem to wear the discs a much as sintered pads and cold/wet weather performance has not been a problem for me, although cold and wet weather riding is something I do less and less these days.
Performance in the dry is good but less snatchy.

I agree with Howard. Sintered pads (especially EBC HH) have a coarser feel and wear discs faster. They certainly wore out a couple of sets of discs I had on my VFR.

Sintered pads were a very effective answer to real wet weather braking problems in the early days of disc brakes on bikes, but organic and other types of pads (like carbon ceramic and carbon metallic) have improved so much that sintered have been caught up and left behind IMHO.

Just checked - the new pads I have are actually gold fren carbon ceramic and not sintered.

In which case, they are perfectly fine Spiderwheels, as i have been using them every day this year since the brake rebuild with no issues what so ever.

After the brake rebuild, the brakes seem to have a better feel, however i don't know whether can attribute that to the rebuild or the pads now!

The pads I fitted last time were Ferodo HH and I don't like them (though I have got used to them)
They are grabby, insensitive and noisy ... though I guess that over a bit of time I have recalibrated myself to use them and no longer really notice them in the way I first did.

Once I wear them out, I'll replace them with something else.

That sounds like a very good idea
