Absent from Facebook

#1 Post by BikerGran » Tue Jun 23, 2015 4:40 pm

Due to their bloody silly ID thing - they want people, so they say, to use the name on Facebook that they use in daily life.

Well I'm called Bobbi - have been since I was a baby! NO-ONE, EVER calls me by my given name - but of course it's on all official stuff that FB want as ID. I don't suppose theuy like 'BikerGran' as a middle name either - which is what I'm called by all those who don't call me Bobbi. Well, that or BG.

No idea how long it's going to take them to sort it out, but for my FB friends - that's why I'm not there!

They have just done this to someone on a fb page I use?

He had changed his ID again, but still not his correct name? :smt002

So how did he get away with that? I'm wondering about trying a new ID with a different email address, but don't know what I would call myself!

So how do they know the rest of us use our real names?
They've never asked me to prove mine (and if they were that intrusive I'd probably leave).
Why on earth do they care what you call yourself (as long as it's within the bounds of common decency)?

And also so that you can be easily found when people are searching for old friends.

Thing is, when you can't get about as much as you used to it's a great way to keep in regular touch with the friends you've made all over the country - and it's much more immediate than writing letters and cheaper than phone calls - it's more like sharing their lives on a daily basis, and I'm really missing it!

I'm more concerned that it's for ease of surveillance by governmental snooping services in this age of increasing authoritarian paranoia.

Exactly .... (and the UK services cooperate with them and share intelligence)

Our services don't have enough intelligence to share!

Didn't mean to say it wasn't a good idea just not for me but then I'm anti social anyway and I have certificates to prove it!

Personally I think it's to do with getting the name you use when paying for goods so that they can target advertising - cos that's where FB makes its money. I intend to to make sure that I tell them all the ads they put on my page are irrelevant and annoying!
