strange eprom

#1 Post by falcono » Fri May 08, 2015 4:54 pm

I'm wondering if anyone could shed some light on this. I ordered and received a aftermarket eprom. I removed the ecu and when opening it looks as though someone has already fitted one BUT here's the strange thing. The bike is a 01 falco. The chip what was in was marked up as SPORT 845. After doing some googling and using google translate all I can find is that
1) the chip is from a 99 rsv and is rubbish
2) the chip is from a Millie and was a pre-production version which was designed to give the bike 98ps and the derestriction cable cutting has no effect

now why would anyone fit this "aftermarket" if it's not for the falco. Or even if it's just serving to restrict Bhp.
I may be totally wrong tho as with some of the results I had to use google translate.

I'm going with it was intended for the 99 Mille and someone at some point thought it would better
Thought it was something it wasn't
Had some other Mille bits on that they thought it might suit better

So 1) or 2) really

Maybe they thought it would do some good I mean if I sold the bike with an SBK replica in it no doubt the buyer would be asking something similar.
For the avoidance of doubt and for the benefit of my wife, not everything I may say here will be absolutely true I may on ocassion embellish a little for effect.
That said when it comes to motorbikes, I like to ride side saddle with a nice frock

Possibly swapped the ecu and that was the chip that was in the ecu? Iirc some have swapping ex for a Mille ecu,for what benefit I've no idea (or maybe they're just interchangeable)

From a French bike?

Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...

I wondered the same - though wasn't sure whether that was achieved with just the restricted map plus the French market airbox plate.
