long oil filter

long oil filter

Hello chaps, I was just going to order an oil filter from wemoto when they present me with a choice of two! One is long.

I am at work at the moment so can't rip it out, does anyone know owt about it?

edit: it's ok I found it all out with a simple search "rsv mille long oil filter"

Yeah, basically if you have an oil filter cover that protrudes from the engine casing then you need the long filter. If you have one that sits flush with the engine casing then you need the shorter filter.

That's sound advice Dale, I was mistakenly told that both fit but most owners prefer longer filters for the greater surface area.

I think the description "sits flush" is maybe a little misleading.

This picture should help - the standard filter housing is on the bike and the one for the longer filter is being held in front:

The longer filter was an "upgrade" Aprilia "recommended".
Perceived wisdom is that it doesn't really give any appreciable benefit but was a convenient change when Aprilia changed suppliers.
Both filters are still available so just choose the right one for the cover you have.

Yes, the pic did help clarify things, I have the standard filter cover,which is a little proud of flush,the long filter cover looks like the cap from an aerosol can.
