Did the MOT tester bend the side stand?

#1 Post by spiderwheels » Mon Mar 30, 2015 5:19 pm

Took my Falco for the first time to my usual MOT place. They like to pull it up on the side stand while one guy waggles the wheels checking the bearings, never been a problem in the past.

I think I have a standard stand but now it's leaning a lot further over. Perhaps a good thing in some eyes but now I have visions of it bending over completely and falling down.. is it safe?

Is the bracket on the frame supposed to be straight?

Question is, did it stay bent while still holding up the bike or snap?

That's fucked

Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...

The mounting plate has a natural bend in it. Your stand has an unnatural bend in it, right where it appears to be rusting, as well. The stand is toast. The mounting plate will live to wedge itself between the flanges of another stand.

Thanks Mango for pointing out which bit was bent.

I'm not quite in a position to pop to a Honda dealer and fork out £70 (I looked it up) on one from a 2004 Fireplace so has anyone got a standard Falco one laying about that they removed?

Sorry - lent mine to someone years ago but never got it back.

As for a replacement stand, why would you buy new?
Bought my Gixer stand second hand and then got it modded.
Still think that with the possible exception of the US stand, this is the best.

Thanks D. Reasons include knowing which gixer stand to get, what the mods are and being able to do them (both in ability and time) and all by the end of the week so I can use the bike.

My GSXR stand was c'07, did not require any mods (except I cut off the side-stand switch), straight fit onto the Falco bracket. the only mods are if you want to retain the switch (need to drill a locating hole for the switch pin)

No, not like that one

Firestarter is right, it will bolt straight on if you want to ditch the sidestand switch - though I'd not recommend doing that.

It's a very long time ago since I did mine but I think you would also need to find a shorter spring if you are not going to re-position the stub it hooks round.

Not sure - the foot looks a bit different to mine, I think mine was from a 600 or 750, I read through that link I sent you and someone had an issue with the 1000 stand, being different to the 600/750

EDIT: This one looks like mine, maybe mine was earlier than K7...:

If you ditch the side stand switch, so the bike will start in gear? Pull off with the side stand down? And the warning light on the dash will not illuminate?
Question marks as I'm not sure which of these things it will have an effect on if not all of them.

Is this not an MOT fail?
