Swollen tank

#1 Post by floakey » Sun Mar 01, 2015 5:42 pm

Is there any fixes out there regarding swollen tanks ? . i changed the plugs the other day , thats another story but lining up the front bolt holes on the tank was an absolute pita having to prise the bracket to line them up . The tanks only recently swollen so knew about the difficulties but this time was harder to do . I thought about elongating the holes on the bracket so I can slide it a few millimetres anyone tried it ?

I've elongated the holes on the bracket in the hope that one day it will stop expanding. All evidence so far has indicated that this is very definitely only a temporary fix.

It helps to losen off the 4 bolts which secure the rear tank bracket to the rear subframe, then line up and insert the bolts into the front of the tank, then realigning the tank bracket and resecuring the rear tank bracket.

Yeah read that thread , doesn't justify the cost really . Going to try making the holes bigger etc there's also a mention about drying out the tank but one thing at a time , will also stop using supermarket fuel .

Result , bought a milling bit and made the holes wider , there was however signs of previous attempts at moving the holes but the other direction not towards the tank , bit weird . Will see how it goes from now on

It'll keep on growing ... then you'll fettle the mounts at the rear of the tank .... then you'll be running out of options.

Yep, you'll put off the evil day ..... but it's coming to get you ....

I have not had my tank off for a while but it has to happen this week,
What makes re fitting easier.....
Remove rear mount, fit front first, lift up grommets and sleeve things, easier to line up bolts, use longer bolts on the rear mounts and jiggle into place using a centre punch or similar

I have a cunning plan. Use the Falco at weekends, fill it up on the way out, empty it on the way home.

It's the rear mount holes I've messed with , not much you can do on the front mount . At least the horn buttons not hitting the tank anymore ,that was annoying . Didn't want to keep on undoing at least 6 bolts every time hence the elongating of holes
