Front brake banjo bolt size for pressure switch?

#1 Post by spiderwheels » Mon Feb 23, 2015 5:19 pm

Seeing as I've broken my front brake light switch and a replacement seems to be rather pricey I'm considering one of those goodridge banjo bolt pressure switches.. currently £11.99 off ebay.

Are they any good? And if so what pitch are the banjo bolts?

One downside would be unable to fit a bleed nipple to the master cylinder but is that as necessary as it seems to be with the clutch?

Thanks

Hi all,

Try fleebay for a switch, even a universal one. I would prefer to have a proper switch. Bleed banjo on m/c is quite important. After all, it is your brakes :smt002
My warranty is the clear/smoked tail lights around the corner!!

I have a pressure switch as the normal switch won't fit on my radial master cylinder.
TBH I'm not entirely convinced by it. Where the standard switch turns the brake light on as soon as you pull the lever, the pressure switch will only do the same thing if you pull hard enough on the brakes .... and normal braking is not always enough to do this (helps you to remember to use the back brake to activate the brake light).

It's OK-ish but I prefer the standard type of switch.

Andy, do you have the Brembo radial m/cyl off the later RSVs? I've got one of those on the red Falco and that has a conventional microswitch-operated brake light switch. If you have a fancy racing Brembo m/cyl then all bets are off, of course.

But I agree about the pressure operated switches. You have to give them a fair amount of stomp to get them to operate, which is rather missing the point IMHO.

Yes I was lucky enough to pick up one of the "fancy racing Brembo m/cyls " from someone who was returning their Mille to standard before selling it.
It's a nice bit of kit with good feel .... just wish the brake light operation was a bit better.

Thanks. I'll invest in a standard switch. But what is the thread pitch of the banjo bolt should I decide to invest in one with a bleed nipple?

I'm pretty sure they're M10 x 1 for the banjo bolt. If I was you, I would buy official brembo parts, I bought a non brembo banjo and bleed nipple in the winter and they would not seal, I ended up sheering the bleed nipple in the end and replaced them both with brembo stuff, sealed first time.
