QR seat bolts!

#1 Post by ginge » Thu Jan 08, 2015 11:33 am

Ive read on here befroe (but cant seem to find it!) about bolts for the seat which could be undone by hand, some kind of Dzus fastening system maybe?

Does anyone have these/know where I can get them as it's a pain in the arse getting the seat off?

Thanks for any help.

I feel your pain!

Pushing the seat foam right in and using a long T-bar made life easier but,

Using a cordless screwdriver and an extension with the right hex bit makes it easier still (No use on the road I appreciate!)

you may be thinking of the AF1 quick release seat pins, I made a massive batch of them, but don't have any left now.

Personally I find them more difficult than the screws, but they do remove the risk of cross threading the screws.

I bought some of the ones that Wayno made and have found them useful especially as one of my screw holes had been cross threaded and looked to be on the way out.

When they are in the right place to keep the seat tight there isn't much room to manipulate the clips because of the lip around hole under the saddle.

With practice, a bit of wire to stop the clips disappearing and the pointy end of a tea spoon (yes really) to pop the clips in and out I find them convenient.

Unsurprisingly I've got some I've never used
For the avoidance of doubt and for the benefit of my wife, not everything I may say here will be absolutely true I may on ocassion embellish a little for effect.
That said when it comes to motorbikes, I like to ride side saddle with a nice frock

Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...

Do you lot need to get under your seat that much? I've only removed mine twice so I could lift the tank to get to the airfilter housing. If I want to charge the battery I've just fed the optimate lead up to under the pillion seat / cowl.

What are you lot going in there for?

Well I have a Brown Falco and not one of those dodgy black ones like you.
I often don't have tools on hand, manly versions or not, I'm never far from a teaspoon though.

And in answer to Karl's what am I doing under there question, to hook up my trickle charger. Works much better than the optimate but I think that has a duff lead.

I have a set of the Way no pins fitted, I don't struggle trying to fit 'r'clips cos I don't have any and don't need any cos I need to push the tail unit outwards to get the rounded bolt areas of the seat base to fit on subframe, so stop being senile old women

Been taking my seat off alot as I dont use my bike much so remove the battery, however I used it and now the relay has gone. I also like tinkering/giving myself problems to tinker further :smt003 .

Thanks for the ideas. Think I may try and drill through the subframeand make some sort of proper QR release system. Will let you know how this goes.
