LCD segments

#1 Post by spiderwheels » Sun Nov 09, 2014 3:54 pm

I was wondering how I'd managed to cover 6000 miles in a month until I realised it actually reads 44000 and not 49000 and the top of the 4/9 is faintly on all the time.

There's also a segment in the speedo that's partially stuck on. Is there any easy cure (like making it flash on and off somehow)?

Take the dash our and dismantle it.

Then either remove the offending segment by prying the metal tangs up and leave the plastic holder in place or unscrew the plastic holder and remove the lot. I prefer to prize the tangs off, but give them a little squeeze before refitting to make sure they clip back properly. Be gentle and careful not to pull the zebra strip off the LCD screen.

Give both the zebra strip connector (rubbery part connected tot he LCD screen) and its mating points on the PCB a wipe (I tend to use the bottom of my T shirt) and put the screen back in place.

You can test the operation without fully rebuilding the dash to check if it's worked or not by plugging it back into the loom.

The zebra strips can get misaligned slightly. If it is broken let me know as I've got a few spares laying about at the moment.
