I've done my time as an all weather rider in my yoof before I had a car I used my 'ped to get everywhere. Sod that in the cold, wet, dark, icy, salty, pot-holed winters.D-Rider wrote:I still don't get this "not riding for half the year" nonsense .... well, unless you happen to be the Blue Peter tortoise .......

Neither do I - brain says yes but the body says NO! Can't do wet or cold any more, and it never used to worry me, I used to ride to work in pouring rain even though I had a car sitting outside and no traffic problems to deal with, just can't do it any more, it's hard to ride with cramp in your hands/knees/feet.D-Rider wrote:I still don't get this "not riding for half the year" nonsense .... well, unless you happen to be the Blue Peter tortoise .......

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying people should ride every day in all weathers - though that's fine for some and different people will have different thresholds.
It's more the arbitrary quitting for 6 months (or whatever) that seems odd. There will be plenty of weeks and days in those 6 months that are quite conducive for riding .... and there is nothing like familiarity with riding to add a bit of "protection" against the attrition rate of those coming out of hibernation the following year.

I know - but last time I kept it taxed I never rode it cos the one time I might have taken it out I was too busy helping to organise the event! However, our club has handed responsibility for the Mistletoe Run to another club aftyer 10 years of fundraising so i guess I MIGHT get to ride this year!
Keeping it taxed I think - partly cos I need to ride it to a club member to get him to sort the problems.
