Cutty Sark

#1 Post by Kwackerz » Mon May 21, 2007 8:56 pm

So the old girl lies in ruin from carelessness, possibly. If it was mindless arson, I hope the person responsible is dealt with heavy handedly. :smt013

For anyone interested in the plight of the Cutty Sark:

Major Incident- 21st May 2007
At approx 4.45am a devastating fire swept through the Cutty Sark. The fire was extinguished by the London Fire Brigade at 6.28am.

This is a significant blow and a major set back for the ship. Now more than ever the ship needs support from all her friends across the world. Donations can be made via our Support Us page.

May sound a bit callous (sp) but 35 million to repair a adult climbing frame that has had more replacement parts and face lifts than Joan Collins. . . . how many nurses / doctors / hospitals could that pay to support?

Come on people get a grip and step into the real world.

Given that we're something like the 5th biggest world economy, I'd have hoped that we could afford to both fund the basic necessities and preserve some of our seafaring/engineering history.

Mind you, it sounds as those managining the pre-fire renovations may have been somewhat negligent in removing fire detection systems - potentially invalidating the insurance. I wonder if we'll ever find out if that's the case.

They could of course pay for it by withholding money/food/housing/medical facilities from the illegal immigrants. They'd raise the dosh inside a week. :smt077

I can't see any point at all in rebuilding it - preserving it is one thing, but if they rebuild it, it's not the same ship!
The tragedy of old age is not that one is old, but that one is young.

Now there's a good debate.

The cells in my body are entirely replaced in 7 years ..... am I no longer the same person?
