wierd clutch feel

#1 Post by falcono » Tue Aug 26, 2014 12:51 pm

Ok so this is gonna be an interesting thing to try to explain. Just lately my clutch lever feels rough. Imagine a cable clutch where the cable is dry as a bone and rubbing. It's like you squeeze it and it has "hard" spots throughout the travel. There is a bit of vertical play in the lever so I'm suspecting the Bush on the lever itself. Is there any known issues to be aware of on the Falco what could cause this symptom? I stopped at some lights, put it in neural and gave it a good in/out and it went smooth for a bit and then comes back.

Just had a quick look and when you pull the clutch in there is a squeaky noise coming from the clutch area

Oil change needed? Broken spring? Bent pushrod?

- I know nothing about Aprilias OR hydraulic operated clutches so I have no idea whether any of those are relevant, but those are what pop into mind.

Possibly not what you are describing but a slight pulsing was a symptom the of the clutch release bearing going. Mine went a while back and I know it has happened to a number of others. Best caught early and is relatively cheap and easy to check and replace.

Mmm, most likely suspects are bearing, pushrod or broken springs,,,
then again worn outer basket, inner hub, and every bloody thing else

Has it always done it or is it a new thing are they standard levers ?
Is it straight from the off or does it ease after a journey what oil was put in and when

Not that I can give you the answer but might help someone who can :smt002

I would consider the release bearing the most likely of the suspects you have listed. I've not heard of any of the others going on the Rotax but several have had release bearing failures...

As an afterthought, check the clutch hose does not pulse when operating the clutch, when the line gets very tired they can sometimes expand under hydraulic pressure rather than deliver full pressure to the slave cylinder, rare but does happen
