Front brake light switch spare anyone?

#1 Post by HisNibbs » Fri Jul 11, 2014 8:49 pm

Been told by a couple that one of my rear light bulbs is out. Finally got round to fitting a new bulb only to realise that the brake lights are permanently on. It appears that the front brake light switch is fkd. So before I remortgage the house to buy a new one, has anyone got one kicking around surplus?

By the way I had to take the fairing off which is about 100 fasteners, to disconnect the brake light switch. Just confirms that I'm not a patient man, felt for a while like using a hammer rather than a selection of allen keys.

i bought one of those really cheap electric screw drivers from aldi/lidl - 10 quid iirc... makes undoing all those posy allen keys a tad easier....

i checked and do not have a spare switch

Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...

Changed mine the other week. The one from a Ducati 996/748 is the same, at least I think it was that model. They all use Brembo levers.

If you don't have a headlamp then maybe you wouldn't need to dismantle half the bike to unplug it? If its not much trouble and you don't need it, then I'd be happy to take it. Does £10 seem about right? Else I can try and source one this week.

I had a very similar issue about 5 years ago. If it's anything like the Futura's, and if you have the patience and sufficiently nimble fingers and very good eyesight (or reading glasses), you can dismantle the switch, fettle its innards, and reassemble. I did this - I can't remember now exactly what the problem was - something sticking - but it's been fine so far.

Are there any more switches going spare?

Or else does anyone have a link to the cheapest replacement of whatever bike happens to use the same one...

As for fitting I think I'll cut the existing wire and solder it on.. it looks like fishing for the connector is far too much work..

Connector is at the fairing frame just behind and towards the top the instruments. You might be able to weave your hand in and get to it but I took the fairing off. I wasn't sure whether there was a connector there or the cable dived into the loom to appear some where else.

I think you'll find that the 2005 RSVR had radial brake and master cylinders, and consequently different micro-switches...

Ducati also used the same part, as they had Brembo master cylinders. Got mine from a local Ducati dealer a month or so ago, just chop of the connector and solder onto the Duke leads.

Yep, that's me monging it again, but there are a few of the ones you need and as stated, various other switches can be modded to fit.

Thanks. They're annoyingly expensive for a tiny little switch.
